Trail Blazers’ Chauncey Billups provides injury update on Scoot Henderson

Portland Trail Blazers rookie Scoot Henderson suffered a nasal contusion on Friday that limited him to just eight minutes of action in a 118-115 win over the Indiana Pacers.

Henderson appeared to sustain the injury early in the second quarter after taking an inadvertent elbow to the face from Pacers center Myles Turner. He checked out of the game afterward and was eventually ruled out of returning to the contest.

He produced 10 points, two rebounds and one assist before the injury.

Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups afterward expressed his gratitude that Henderson appeared to avoid a serious injury. He is hopeful that Henderson won’t miss any time.

I thought before Scoot went down, Scoot was incredible. … I was just so happy that it wasn’t a concussion. I think, hopefully, he’ll start feeling better.

After defeating the Pacers at Moda Center, the Trail Blazers begin a four-game road trip with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The team hasn’t yet released its injury report for the contest and will update the status of Henderson beforehand.

Henderson is averaging 12.5 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds on 36.7% shooting from the field in 32 games this season. He leads the rookie class in assists and is fifth in scoring, and is one of six first-year players with a 30-point game.
