Trade rumor rankings: Patrick Beverley, Cam Reddish and more

It’s time for another edition of our trade rumors rankings series, where we rank the five NBA players who have appeared most frequently in trade scuttle over the previous week.

With the trade deadline now just a couple of months away and the NBA season seemingly completely wide open without many untouchable contenders out there, expect a busy time coming up with regard to rumors.

There are some new names on the list this week as opposed to in weeks prior so without further ado, let’s jump right into the action.

Patrick Beverley (LA Lakers)

With Patrick Beverley struggling the way he has since joining the Los Angeles Lakers, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he finds himself on this week’s edition of our trade rumor rankings.

According to Jake Fischer, the Lakers are shopping a small package including Beverley, Kendrick Nunn and a protected first-round pick and are interested in the player who finished first in these rankings.

Fischer also writes in that report that Beverley would welcome a return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career last year, averaging 9.2 points and 4.6 assists and helping guide the team to the playoffs.

Meanwhile, according to our own Michael Scotto, the New York Knicks tried to see if the Lakers would be interested in Evan Fournier in exchange for Beverley and Nunn:

Before Reddish’s recent benching in New York, the Knicks originally engaged the Lakers to see if they’d have interest in swapping Evan Fournier for Patrick Beverley and Kendrick Nunn, league sources told HoopsHype. Beverley and Nunn will both become unrestricted free agents after this season.

We’ll see what happens here, but it does look like Beverley will finish the season on another team, barring a level-up in his play or the Lakers making a run with him playing a part in it.

Cam Reddish (New York)

For the second straight week, Cam Reddish finds himself in these rankings as the trade speculation surrounding his name has yet to slow down.

According to Fischer, there is a chance Reddish ends up on the Lakers by the trade deadline:

New York has made plenty of its roster available for discussion, particularly Evan Fournier, Derrick Rose, Cam Reddish and Immanuel Quickley, sources said. The Knicks are working with Reddish’s representatives to find him a new home, and there have indeed been conversations about rerouting him and Fournier to Los Angeles, sources said.

Shams Charania reportedly similarly this week, mentioning the Lakers as a potential landing spot for Reddish:

They’ve also discussed concepts involving New York’s Cam Reddish and Evan Fournier, sources said. With Anthony Davis having an MVP-caliber season and LeBron James turning in another strong campaign, it will be fascinating to monitor how these Lakers approach Feb. 9.

Finally, Ian Begley also reported the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat, along with the Lakers, as teams interested in Reddish:

Regardless, several teams have expressed interest in trading for Reddish since the Knicks acquired him in January 2022. The Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams who reached out to New York in that span.” “It’s worth noting that the Lakers and Knicks talked earlier this month about a potential trade that would have required a third team to complete.”

Be it due to lack of opportunity or whatever else, we have yet to see what Reddish can do with an expanded role, though the talent and upside are there. We’ll see if New York moves him and gives him a shot at more playing time elsewhere.

KJ Martin (Houston)

In his third season, KJ Martin had enjoyed his most productive campaign, averaging 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while producing value in transition and as an off-ball slasher. As such, Martin has drawn interest around the league in the trade market.

The reason for that speculation actually comes from Martin’s end, as it was reported this week by Eric Pincus that the son of the former overall No. 1 pick wants more consistent playing time:

Forward KJ Martin has also hoped to be moved to a team that can give him a more significant role. His minutes have climbed in Houston this season, but multiple sources believe he still wants out.

According to Charania, one potential landing spot for Martin could be in Phoenix with the Suns as part of a larger deal:

Multiple league sources said the Suns recently engaged in three-team talks that would have sent Crowder to Milwaukee, four Bucks second-round draft picks along with players to Houston, and Eric Gordon and/or Kenyon Martin Jr. to Phoenix. The hold up in the potential three-teamer was that the Rockets are coveting one first-round pick for Gordon, and for Martin a very good first-rounder, not a batch of second-rounders, according to sources.

That was echoed by Fischer later in the week, who reported that Martin has been on the Suns’ radar since the summer.

Still, it’s not a lock Martin gets dealt, as he’s got a valuable, team-friendly contract, one the Houston Rockets aren’t all that keen on just shipping away:

They are even more hesitant to move forward K.J. Martin, another name in frequent trade speculation. Martin is on a team-friendly contract, worth just $1.9 million at a team option next season. The Rockets could decline that option and extend him, the sort of extension that general manager Rafael Stone has favored in the past two seasons.

Eric Gordon (Houston)

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets are heavily shopping veteran 2-guard Eric Gordon, talking to half a dozen teams about the scoring specialist:

There have been preliminary talks with roughly a half dozen teams, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Gordon is expected to be among the top targets for contenders (such as the Suns, who played the Rockets on Tuesday) looking for help to get over the top. Gordon’s ability to catch-and-shoot with range, to defend at a variety of positions, and to defer to other stars all make him an easy fit for already well-positioned teams

Feigen would go on to mention the Knicks as one of those teams while also reporting that the asking price remains a first-round pick for Gordon, which seems a bit steep for a player about to turn 34 years old and clearly on the downswing of his career.

As we mentioned in the Martin section, the Suns were also reported as a potential landing spot for Gordon as part of a larger three-team deal.

It feels likely that Gordon gets traded before the upcoming deadline, but we definitely said similarly before last year’s trade deadline and the offseason that ensued so at this point – who knows?

Bojan Bogdanovic (Detroit)

It seems all of the recent talks on Bojan Bogdanovic are with regards to the Detroit Pistons trading him this season, as they remain leagues away from even playoff contention while the veteran swingman is still quite productive, the perfect recipe for a trade.

But one local Pistons beat writer, James Edwards, reported this week that Detroit isn’t super eager to trade the Croatian sharpshooter:

The Pistons don’t appear to be eager to move Bogdanovic, who is in the midst of a career-scoring season and has added great leadership value to the young team. Of course, every player has a price, but with Detroit interested in turning a corner over the next year, the idea of keeping Bogdanovic is appealing to the organization. Bogdanovic signed a contract extension earlier this season, and it has always been my understanding that Detroit wanted to ink the veteran forward to a longer deal to keep him around, not to move him this season.

However, Charania reported this very week that the Lakers – of course –  are interested in Bogdanovic and have a package prepared to offer Detroit:

Meanwhile, Marc Stein said this week that the asking price by the Pistons from the Lakers for Bogdanovic is currently an unprotected future first-round pick:

The Pistons have to date declined those overtures, sources add, insisting on a fully unprotected future first from the Lakers to seriously entertain a Bogdanović swap. Detroit, in fact, continues to tell interested teams (and there are several) that it wants to keep Bogdanović, who is averaging 21.0 points and shooting 50.8% from the field (43.7% on 3-pointers) as a Piston.

With Bogdanovic currently being 33 years old and having two fully guaranteed seasons left on his contract, Detroit might be wise to move him now before injury or age affect his value as a trade asset.
