Track regional roundup: Mason, Grand Ledge, Portland St. Patrick, Fowler, Olivet girls claim titles

Senior Taylor Pangburn was among the key performers while helping Grand Ledge claim a Division 1 regional title on Friday.

Pangburn was part of the champion 1,600 relay and also had runner-up finishes in the 800 and 3,200 for the Comets, who finished with 114 points to edge Howell by three for the title.

The finish in the 1,600 relay helped the Comets claim the championship.

Lauren Hamilton also was part of the 1,600 relay and was the runner-up in the 400. Ashley Richburg (long jump) and Brookelynn Meyers (discus) also had runner-up finishes for Grand Ledge.

East Lansing finished fourth and had a pair of double individual winners in senior Anna Delgado and sophomore Gabrielle Pruitt. Delgado won the 1,600 and 3,200. She set a personal record with her winning time of 4:52.35 in the 1,600. Pruitt won the 100 and the 200.

Holt’s Lauren Walker won the 800 and was part of the Rams’ champion 800 relay team.

Division 2 at Mason

Host Mason captured a regional title with a score of 101.5, while Charlotte was the runner-up

Juniors Riley Gill and Meghan Ford were double winners to lead Mason. Both were part of the winning 1,600 relay, while Gill won the 100 hurdles and Ford won the 1,600.

Charlotte finished with 81 points and was led by senior Annabelle Densmore, who was a double individual champion. Densmore won the 100 dash and the 300 hurdles.

Haslett freshman Christina Dixon was the other area athletes to win a pair of individual events. Dixon won the 200 and the 400.

St. Johns' Clara Fletcher was part of two event wins, winning the 3,200 and running a leg on the Redwings’ champion 3,200 relay.

Division 2 at Frankenmuth

Williamston was the top finishing area team and placed third at this regional Friday.

MacKynzie Bush (100), Jaiden Griffith (400) and Ellie Thorburn (shot put) each won individual events to lead Williamston, which had 86 points.

Owosso's Claire Agnew was a double winner, placing first in the pole vault and running on a leg on the champion 400 relay. Peyton Spicer won the discus for the Trojans, who finished fourth with a score of 85.5.

Division 4 at Concord

Rylee Scheurer, Kenzie Fedewa and Sophia Schrauben had strong showings while helping Portland St. Patrick dominate its regional Friday. The Shamrocks finished with 154 points to claim the title, finishing 68 ahead of runner-up Webberville.

Scheurer won all four of her events, taking individual victories in the 100 and 200 while also being part of the winning 400 and 800 relays. Fedewa won the 400 and also was part of the winning 400 and 800 relays for the Shamrocks. Schrauben captured titles in the 100 and 300 hurdles and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay. St. Patrick also won the 3,200 relay.

Webberville's Ryleigh Nelson (high jump / long jump) and Potterville's Autumn Reynolds (1,600 / 3,200) were double individual winners.

Division 3 at Chesaning

Payton Otto continued her strong showing in the throws and Emily Peters and Sophia Pell were double winners while helping Olivet capture a regional title on Saturday.

Olivet finished with 149 points to claim the championship. Pewamo-Westphalia was the runner-up with a score of 124 while Lansing Catholic followed in third with 76 points.

Otto swept the throws, taking first in the discus and shot put to lead the Eagles. Peters and Pell were both part of the winning 1,600 relay and also had individual wins. Pell was the high jump champion and Peters won the 300 hurdles.

Pewamo-Westphalia had a double winner in Elly Bengel, who was the champion in the 200 and ran a leg on the winning 800 relay. Addison Trierweiler won the pole vault for the Pirates.

Lansing Catholic had a pair of double individual winners while taking third in the team standings. Hannah Pricco won the 400 and 800. She set a personal record with her mark of 57.86 in the 400. Tessa Roe claimed titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Perry’s Anna Nixon (long jump) and Bath’s Destiny McDaniels (100 hurdles) also were champs.

Division 4

Kelcie Pung and relays led the way for Fowler on its way to a regional title on Saturday.

Pung was part of three event wins and the Eagles won three relays while finishing with 130 points at their regional. Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart was the runner-up with 76.5 points.

Pung finished as the champion in the 800 and 1,600 runs and was part of the winning 3,200 relay for Fowler. The Eagles also claimed titles in the 800 and 400 relays with Grace O’Hare, Michaela Spitzley and Katie Spicer running legs on both.

Fowler’s other champion was Olivia Thelen in the pole vault.

Fulton’s Emily Stinson was the discus champion.

Division 3 at Stockbridge

Gracee Robidou and Megan Mackinder were multi-event winners while helping Stockbridge finish as the runner-up at its regional Saturday.

Robidou swept the 100 and 300 hurdles and was the long jump champion and Mackinder won the shot put and discus for the Panthers. Stockbridge also won the 3,200 relay.

BOYS

Division 2 at Mason

Tyler Baker has turned in several big performances this spring for the Mason boys track and field team.

The junior had another one Friday while helping the Bulldogs finish as the runner-up on their home track.

Baker won three individual events to lead Mason, which finished with 102 points. The Bulldogs were edged by three points by Parma Western. Charlotte had 88 points to take third.

Baker won the long jump (21 feet), the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and the 110 hurdles (15.4 seconds) and also took third in the 300 hurdles. The other champion for Mason was AJ Martel, who won the 300 hurdles.

Sexton’s Tayvian Smith was part of two event wins, winning the 100 and running a leg on the champion 400 relay.

Eastern’s Ky'Ren McKnight (200), Ionia’s Jacob Montgomery (800), Joey Bowman (3,200) and Portland’s Noah Simpson (discus) also were individual regional champions.

Division 2 at Frankenmuth

Junior Tarick Bower won a pair of individual events and was part of two winning relays to help Corunna to a runner-up finish at Friday’s regional. Corunna had a score of 148.75 and finished a point behind Frankenmuth.

Bower set a personal record with his leap of 22-9 in the long jump, won the 100 and ran a leg on the winning 400 and 800 relays. Bower joined Wyatt Bower, Nick Strauch and Isaac Jacobs on the winning relays.

Andrew Tucker was the other individual champion for the Cavaliers and won the pole vault. Corunna also won the 3,200 relay. Logan Roka was part of that winning relay and finished as the runner-up in the 800 and 1,600 for the Cavaliers.

Owosso’s Tyler Hufnagel won the 300 hurdles.

Division 1 at Grand Ledge

Holt finished third with 69 points to lead the area finishers at the regional. Seneca Moore was a double winner for the Rams, winning the 110 hurdles and also running a leg on the winning 400 relay team. Moore was also the runner-up in the 300 hurdles and part of an 800 relay that finished second.

Waverly’s Evan Walker was also a double winner and helped the Warriors place fourth. Walker won the 400, ran a leg on the winning 800 relay and also was second in the long jump.

DeWitt’s Andrew Novak won the 100 and was the other individual winner.

Division 4 at Concord

Dustin Copeland led Morrice as it finished as the team runner-up at Friday's regional. Morrice had a score of 106 while Dansville had 93 points.

Copeland was a triple champion, winning the 100 and 200 and running a leg on the 400 relay that placed first. Morrice also had three other individual champions - Oliver Long (shot put), Drew McGowan (discus) and Caden Binkley (pole vault).

Dansville's Shane Braughton was a double winner and swept the 110 and 300 hurdles. Theodore Davis won the 1,600 for Dansville.

Division 3 at Chesaning

Collin Farmer and Gavin Nurenberg won a pair of individual events while helping lead Pewamo-Westphalia to a regional championship Saturday.

Farmer swept the distance events, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 and Nurenberg was the champion in the shot put and discus for the Pirates, who finished with 124.5 points. P-W finished six points ahead of runner-up Chesaning.

Trevor Smith was the other champion for P-W and won the 100.

Other area champions included Bath’s DeVondre Chandler (high jump), Ovid-Elsie’s Tryce Tokar (pole vault) and Ithaca’s Ryley White (400). Olivet won the 3,200 relay.

Division 4 at Breckenridge

Brady Feldpausch and Ford Phillips teamed on a pair of winning relays and also individual winners while helping Fowler captured a regional title on Saturday.

The Eagles won with a score of 161 points. Beal City was the runner-up with 112 points.

Feldpausch won all four of his events, contributing to the winning 800 and 1,600 relays and also taking first in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Phillips also was the champion in the 400.

Carter Lance was the other individual champion for Fowler and won the high jump.

Carson City-Crystal, which placed fourth in the team standings, won the 3,200 relay.

Division 3 at Stockbridge

Stockbridge had two event wins while finishing fourth at its regional on Saturday. Micha Bolton was a double winner, taking the title in the 3,200 and also running a leg on the winning 3,200 relay.
