Here are the top Western North Carolina girls tennis players to watch in 2023 season
The Western North Carolina high school girls tennis season began Aug. 14.
Hendersonville won its fourth straight team title last season. Franklin, Asheville School and Roberson all had strong seasons as well.
Here are the top players to watch in the 2023 season.
Abigail Angel, Franklin, Jr.: Angel is the top singles player for the Panthers after she went 13-5 last season. She collected an 8-2 record in doubles. Angel will try to help the Panthers repeat as Mountain 7 Conference champions.
Kate Phillips, Franklin, Jr.: Phillips made it to the semifinals of the NCHSAA 3A doubles tournament with Alyssa Smith last season. She also finished 14-2 in singles. Phillips played a pivotal role in Franklin's 17-1 record last season.
Eliza Perry, Hendersonville, Sr.: Perry is the reigning All-WNC Girls Tennis Player of the Year. She went undefeated in singles and doubles in 2022. She and Ramsey Ross won the NCHSAA 2A doubles state championship. The senior will be pivotal in the Bearcats' bid to win their fifth consecutive team title.
Raleigh Prichard, Hendersonville, Jr.: Prichard finished her sophomore season with an 11-2 record in singles and a 12-1 record in doubles.
Ramsey Ross, Hendersonville, Sr.: Ross went 13-1 in singles and was 12-0 with Perry in doubles.

Erika Mendez, Roberson, Sr.: Mendez, the top singles player for Roberson, started the season with three consecutive victories. Mendez will be key in the Rams' bid to repeat as Mountain Athletic Conference champion.
Rainie Richards, Roberson, Sr.: Richards collected an 11-4 record in singles last season and went 5-3 in doubles. She will be important to the Rams' effort to improve on a 15-3 record.
Shea Sullivan, West Henderson, So.: Sullivan finished 12-4 in singles and 9-3 in doubles last season. Sullivan will be crucial to the Falcons' attempt to keep Franklin from becoming conference champion again.
