Here are the top Topeka-area high school performances from May 6-May 11

TOPEKA — The best players on each team are starting to make their mark as the spring season comes to a close. With the postseason beginning for some teams, the regular season is coming to an end for others.

Here are the top Topeka-area performers for the week of May 6-11.

Boys

Monday, May 6

Myles Alonzo, Topeka West golf: The senior won the United Kansas Conference Championship with a 73. It was a four shot victory for the golfer at Lake Shawnee Golf Club.

Jensen Crawford, Shawnee Heights golf: The senior finished in fourth place in the United Kansas Conference Championship.

Cooper Campidilli, Silver Lake baseball: The catcher hit a home run and collected three RBIs on three hits in Silver Lake’s 12-5 win over Jefferson West.

Tuesday, May 7

Cooper Hayes, Seaman baseball: The outfielder hit a RBI triple to highlight the easy 10-0 win for the Vikings over Leavenworth.

Rich Helmbold, Cair Paravel golf: The senior fired a round of 76 to win the Kaw Valley Conference Championship. He helped the Lions win the team conference title, too.

Wednesday, May 8

Nate Plankinton, Topeka High baseball: The senior pitched a complete game and allowed just one hit. He struck out eight batters in Topeka High’s 8-0 win over Wichita East.

Tremaine Savage, Highland Park track and field: The junior won the Meadowlark Conference Championship 400-meter dash with a time of 53.78.

Washburn Rural track and field: Josh Sulzen-Watson remained patient through injury to become top thrower

Thursday, May 9

Cayden Lindsay, Shawnee Heights baseball: The outfielder hit the walk-off single to deliver Shawnee Heights a 3-2 win over Piper.

Hank Stamper, Topeka High baseball: The senior collected six RBIs across two games for the Trojans. Topeka High defeated St. Marys Academy 17-6 and 12-2.

Evan Schied, Silver Lake track and field: The junior won the 100-meter and the 200-meter dash in the Mid-East League Conference Championship.

Barret Lietz, Rossville track and field: The senior won the Mid-East League Conference Championship in the javelin competition with a mark of 51-feet.

Peyton Holmes, Seaman track and field: The junior won the long jump of the United Kansas Conference Championship with a mark of 23-feet 1/2 inch.

Tyler Wedl, Shawnee Heights track and field: The junior won pole vault at the United Kansas Conference Championship with a vault of 12-feet 6-inches.

Finn Dunshee, Hayden track and field: The senior won the Centennial League Conference title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73.

Liam Morrison, Washburn Rural track and field: The sophomore won the Centennial League Conference title in the 300-meter hurdle with a time of 39.39.

Friday, May 10

Kade Mitchell, Hayden baseball: The right fielder collected three hits and two RBIs in Hayden’s 10-1 win over Silver Lake in the opening round of regional play.

Brock Bush, Rossville baseball: The first baseman drilled a three-run home run to highlight Rossville’s 14-4 win over Council Grove in the first round of the regional tournament.

Saturday, May 11

Drew Fay, Cair Paravel tennis: The sophomore was the top finisher on the singles side for any Topeka-area tennis player in Saturday's state tournament. Fay finished in fourth place in the Class 3-1A State Tournament as he capped off an incredible sophomore season.

Joseph Luke and Chase Blaser, Hayden tennis: The doubles pair finished in fifth place in the Class 3-1A State Championship Tournament. They secured the victory with a close 9-7 win over Smoky Valley’s Ezekiel Baker and Gabriel Baker to finish off the two-day event.

Boys basketball: Topeka West hires familiar face for head coaching role

Girls

Monday, May 5

Kaibryn Kruger, Silver Lake softball: The outfielder hit three home runs across the double header victory over Hiawatha. The Eagles defeated Hiawatha 13-2 and 15-0.

Tuesday, May 6

Micah Williams, Highland Park soccer: The freshman scored a brace to lead the Scots to a 2-1 win over JC Harmon.

Jo’Mhara Benning, Topeka High softball: The first baseman racked up four hits and finished with five RBIs in the Trojans’ 14-5 win over St. Xavier.

Kate Hinck, Washburn Rural soccer: The junior netted a hat trick against Topeka High. The Junior Blues blanked the Trojans 10-0 for an easy win.

Gabby Martinez, Washburn Rural softball: The second baseman hit a walk-off to lift the Junior Blues to a 6-5 victory over Manhattan.

Isabell Van Fleet, Shawnee Heights soccer: The striker scored all three goals in the opening 15 minutes to lead the Thunderbirds to a 3-0 win against Lansing.

Grace Proctor, Shawnee Heights softball: The first baseman hit a RBI double to highlight the team’s 5-4 win over Piper.

Jill Lenherr, Hayden soccer: The senior scored one of Hayden’s four goals in their 4-0 win over Emporia.

Hailey Horton, Rossville softball: The catcher recorded three RBIs on two hits in Rossville’s 8-2 win over Rock Creek.

Avery Walz, Seaman swimming: The senior won the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and helped the Vikings win the 200-yard medley relay in the United Kansas Conference Championship.

Wednesday, May 8

Tahtionna Broils, Highland Park track and field: The junior finished in second place in the high jump of the Meadowlark Conference Championship with a mark of 4-feet 8-inches.

Thursday, May 9

Erika Bovell, Washburn Rural soccer: The freshman drilled a shot into the top corner in the final two minutes of the game to seal the 1-0 win over Seaman.

Carsyn Broxterman, Hayden soccer: The striker scored three goals in Hayden’s 7-1 win over Tonganoxie.

Isabell Van Fleet, Shawnee Heights soccer: Van Fleet scored the game-winning goal to boost Shawnee Heights to a 1-0 win against Manhattan.

Brooke Springer, Rossville softball: The outfielder hit a home run and finished with three RBIs on four hits which helped the Bulldawgs win 16-5 against Sabetha.

Audrey Schulte, Shawnee Heights softball: The right fielder led the team with three RBIs and two hits in the Thunderbirds’ 10-6 win against Washburn Rural.

Genevieve Miranda, Washburn Rural swimming: Miranda won the Centennial League Conference title in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She also was a part of the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard relay which took first place.

Sarah Wehrli, Silver Lake track and field: The senior won the 100-meter hurdles of the Mid-East League Conference Championship with a time of 16.79.

Maggie Lesmeister, Seaman track and field: The senior took the United Kansas Conference title in javelin with a mark of 134-feet 4-inches.

Bella Reid,  Hayden track and field: The junior secured first place in the 100-meter hurdles in the Centennial League Conference Championship with a time of 16.35.

Reagan Petersen, Washburn Rural track and field: The senior won the Centennial League Conference title with a throw of 116-feet 8-inches.

Ahsieyrhuajh Rayton, Topeka High track and field: The triple jumper hit a mark of 38-feet 7-inches to claim the Centennial League Conference Championship.
