Here are the top Spartanburg area high school football offensive linemen in 2023

With the South Carolina high school football season inching closer each day, here's a look at the Spartanburg area's top offensive lineman to keep your eye on during the 2023 season.

More from this series: Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers

Harrison Bridges

Chapman | Senior

Bridges is a 6-foot-4, 275-pound two-way lineman who uses his combination of size and speed to be an effective run blocker, primarily playing right tackle last season. With an offseason to develop his pass protection technique and an opening on the left, expect Bridges to be the complete package on the blindside for returning quarterback Coleman Gray and the Panthers' run game.

Jake Buerk

Gaffney | Senior

After a successful first season in South Carolina, the transfer from New York will be making the move from guard to center this season and should be the anchor of this talented Gaffney line and new QB Riley Staton. Buerk (6-3, 285) has offers from East Tennessee State, Newberry, Limestone and others.

Landon Greene

Dorman | Junior

As the only returning starter from last season's impressive group and with a new coach and starting QB, Greene will have to anchor this group from the center position and to lead this offense. Greene (6-2, 320) is a bona fide people mover in the run game and is hardly physically challenged by opposing linemen.

Broome played Union County at Broome High School in 3A football on Sept. 9, 2022. Broome's Steven O'Dell (77), center, fights for room on the field.

Steven O'Dell

Broome | Senior

O'Dell, a Furman commit, is a 6-6 290-pound lineman with the size, speed and versatility to play any position along the offensive line. In the run game, he's used like a Swiss Army knife to block for the area's top running back Jaylen McGill, constantly being pulled and used as a lead blocker in open space.

Shedrick Sarratt Jr.

Gaffney | Junior

The 6-5, 300-pound left tackle was a revelation last season covering the blindside for Gaffney. His size, strength and feet in pass protection were impressive for a sophomore in his first season at the varsity level. He also has a mean streak in the run the game, using that size to absolutely maul defenders. Sarratt has offers from Marshall, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina. .

AJ Suttles

Byrnes | Junior

Suttles made a name for himself as the starting center for a high-powered Byrnes offense as just a sophomore last season. The 6-2 295-pound lineman has great hand technique and ferocity in the run game, especially when he gets to the second level. Look out for his ability to slap defenders down and quickly move upfield; it's highlight-worthy.

Jayden Van Wettering

Landrum | Senior

Van Wettering, an All-Region 1-AA selection in 2022, is a critical piece on Landrum's offensive line for new coach Brent Bridges at the guard spot in a Cardinals' run game that produced 2,700 yards and 33 touchdowns last season. Bridges expects Van Wettering also will step up as a pass blocker, as Landrum shifts away from the triple-option to a spread offensive system.

Trey Weathers

Spartanburg | Junior

Weathers is a returning starter on the Spartanburg line; he played at either tackle spot last season. Though he isn't the biggest guy out there, his quickness, footwork and use of leverage make him a quality pass blocker and integral run blocker — especially at the second level.
