Here are the top South Bend-area high school boys tennis players to watch in 2023

There will be plenty of familiar faces among the brightest stars for area high school boys tennis teams this fall.

The group includes a trio of returning standouts from Penn, which reached the semistate a year ago.

There are also two sets of talented brothers on the Saint Joseph's squad, which won its fifth straight Northern Indiana Conference crown in 2022.

Goshen also returns five of its top seven players from a season ago when the RedHawks rolled to a 23-1 season, which ended in the semistate.

Here are 10 area prep talents on the boys tennis side to watch this fall.

Chris Chen (Penn junior)

Chen put together an overall record of 21-7 as a sophomore playing at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles. He was the NIC MVP in 2022.

Evan Knapp (Penn junior)

Knapp posted a 24-3 mark a year ago, playing at No. 2 and 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Quinn Lippert (Penn sophomore)

Lippert enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign, going 26-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Colin Blumentritt (St. Joseph senior)

Blumentritt posted a 22-3 mark at No. 2 singles last season, He earned All-NIC and honorable mention All-State honors.

Luke Blumentritt (St. Joseph sophomore)

The younger Blumentritt brother was 23-3 at No. 1 doubles in 2022. He garnered All-NIC second team honors and and All-State accolades.

Will Westberry (St. Joseph senior)

Westberry posted a 21-3 mark at No. 3 singles as a junior. He was an All-NIC pick and also honorable mention All-State.

Jake Westberry (St. Joseph junior)

Westberry was 23-3 at No. 1 doubles a year ago. He was All-NIC second team and an All-State selection.

Pi Wellington (Goshen senior)

Wellington was at the top of a lineup in helping his team go 23-1 a season ago. He was an All-NLC choice at No. 1 singles in 2022.

Isaac Stahly (Goshen senior)

Stahly went undefeated at No. 3 singles in 2022 as Goshen won NLC, sectional and regional titles. Stahly was an All-NLC selection a season ago.

Camden Hickman (Bremen senior)

Hickman was 15-10, playing primarily at No. 2 singles in 2022. He helped Bremen win a sectional championship and was a second-team All-NIC choice.
