Top Somerset County baseball, softball and tennis performers for May 6-11

Athlete of the Week

North Star baseball player Glendon Griffith was voted Daily American Somerset County Male Athlete of the Week while Somerset softball player Brooklynn Thomas was selected Female Athlete of the Week for their efforts April 29 to May 4.

Griffith tossed a no-hitter in a 15-0 win over Berlin Brothersvalley. He also drove in three runs in the game.

Meanwhile, Thomas tallied 17 strikeouts in a 3-2 10-inning win over Shade.

Thursday

Softball

Meyersdale 15, North Star 0 (3): Izabella Donaldson recorded two hits, including a home run and three RBIs in a dominating win for the Red Raiders.

Donaldson pitched an inning and tallied two strikeouts to reach 600 for her career. Kendell Donaldson drove in three runs and Isabella Sleasman added two RBIs.

Wednesday

Baseball

Somerset 6, Chestnut Ridge 5: Lane Lambert and Cole Lucas each delivered two RBIs to propel the Golden Eagles over the Lions.

Kahne Foltz added two hits and an RBI for Somerset.

Conemaugh Township 10, Cambria Heights 1: Luke Weber, D.J. Bambino and Zack Petree each produced two RBIs to guide Conemaugh Township to a commanding win.

Colin Dinyar homered for Conemaugh Township. Petree pitched four innings, allowing just three hits.

Mapletown 13, Turkeyfoot 3 (5): Zack Ryan tallied two hits and two RBIs while Luke Bowers added an RBI for the Rams in a setback.

Other scores: Meyersdale 11, Ferndale 0 (6); Berlin Brothersvalley 3, Rockwood 1

Softball

Southern Huntingdon 9, Windber 7: Kaylie Gaye went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and two runs scored for the Ramblers in a narrow setback.

Rylee Baer added two hits for Windber.

Tuesday

Baseball

North Star 7, Windber 6: Cayden Turner went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to vault the Cougars over the Ramblers.

Braden Livingston doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice for North Star. Austin Orris added two hits and Brady Meyers provided two RBIs.

Lucas Rummel tallied two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Cole Mash added two hits and two runs for Windber.

Ferndale 9, Turkeyfoot 5: Gavin Culp and Bryce Nicholson each hit a 2-run single for the Rams in a setback to the Yellow Jackets.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 5, Shade 4 (9): Coral Prosser recorded five hits, an RBI and two runs scored to help the Mountaineers past the Panthers.

Elsie Barna had two RBIs for Berlin. Elena Ritchey struck out 12 in a complete game.

Payton Maddy provided three hits for Shade.

Richland 2, Somerset 1: Savannah Landis and Riley Wiencek each contributed two hits for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Rams.

Brooklynn Thomas allowed two hits, one walk and struck out 12 for Somerset.

Windber 15, North Star 4 (5): Rylee Baer produced two hits, including a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored to guide the Ramblers past the Cougars.

Aaliyah James and Layla Gray each had two hits and three RBIs for Windber. Angel James contributed three hits and scored four runs while Kaylie Gaye delivered two hits and scored three times.

Ryleica Grove homered for North Star.

Ferndale 7, Turkeyfoot Valley 5: Kya King delivered two hits and two RBIs for the Rams in a setback to the Yellow Jackets.

Jessica Pepe collected two hits for Turkeyfoot.

Meyersdale 10, Rockwood 2: Amber Long provided three hits and four RBIs to propel the Red Raiders over the Rockets.

Jessica Daughton tallied three hits and two RBIs while Laurel Daniels added two hits and an RBI for Meyersdale. Izabella Donaldson allowed two runs on four hits and struck out 17.

Kalynne Ohler drove in two runs for Rockwood.

Baseball

Somerset 18, Richland 5: The Golden Eagles tallied 10 runs in the top of the seventh to upend the Rams.

Callen Miller recorded five hits, including a home run and five RBIs for Somerset. Lane Lambert added two hits, including a home run and five RBIs. Carter Dunmyer tallied three hits. Braeden Flower struck out 10 over six innings.

Conemaugh Township 7, Cambria Heights 5: Larry Weaver delivered two hits, including a home run and two RBIs to lift Conemaugh Township to a victory.

D.J. Bambino drove in two runs while Luke Weber and Brennan Lohr each contributed two hits for Conemaugh Township.

Windber 12, Ferndale 2 (6): Lucas Oleksa hit a 3-run home run and racked up four RBIs to propel the Ramblers past the Yellow Jackets.

Lucas Rummel recorded two hits, an RBI and scored two runs while Nathan Betcher added a hit and two RBIs for Windber. Logan Serenko struck out five.

Hancock 10, Turkeyfoot Valley 2: Bryce Nicholson provided two hits and Gavin Culp tallied an RBI single for the Rams in a setback.

Tennis

District 5-2A doubles championship

Somerset's Cornelius Grau and Josiah Antram defeated Tussey Mountain's Luke Barnett and Nolan May 6-1, 6-2 to earn District 5 Class 2A doubles gold.
