Top performers: Tuscaloosa area high school sports top performers for week of May 6-10

Here are the Tuscaloosa area top performers from the week of May 6-10 from high school golf, baseball and softball.

Baseball

American Christian Academy's Evan Lightsey hit a two-run home run along with a double and three RBIs in the series sweep over Bibb County (2-1, 4-0) to advance to the 4A state championship series.

American Christian Academy's Eric Hines went 5-for-6 across the series with two RBIs, scoring three runs.

American Christian Academy's Coltyn Mitchell started on the mound in game two of the series, pitching a complete game, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out 12.

Softball

Hillcrest's Jewel Brooks went 10-for-19 from the plate in the 6A Central Regional Tournament, scoring six runs to go with four RBIs. Hillcrest won the Central Regional Tournament to advance to state.

Hillcrest's Marti McCluskey went 8-for-19 from the plate with five RBIs.

Hillcrest's Mackenzie Harper went 3-1 in the circle with 23 strikeouts over 20⅓ innings pitched. From the plate, she went 5-for-8.

Hillcrest's Brooke Mathewson struck out 12 batters over seven innings pitched.

Northside's Baylee Appling had a 3-0 record in the circle with one earned run allowed over 16 innings. Northside won the 4A Central Regional Tournament to advance to state.

Northside's Brayden Billings batted .600 with three RBIs.

Northside's Emma Bennett batted .545 scoring three runs.

Northside's Claire Jones had a walk-off RBI to help advance Northside to the state tournament.

Winfield's Kenna Beth Lacy went 6-for-8 from the plate with three RBIs in the 3A North Regional, which Winfield won to advance to state. From the circle, Lacy pitched a complete game, giving up zero runs and striking out nine.

Winfield's Willa Simmons pitched two complete game wins, giving up three earned runs across two games.

Winfield's Maddie Grace Lewis went 4-for-9 from the plate with two RBIs.

Winfield's Abby Chanell went 6-for-9 from the plate with one RBI.

Golf

Tuscaloosa Academy girls golf repeated as the 1A-3A South Sub-State champions, shooting 236, five shots clear of Mobile Christian in second place. TA advances to the state finals next week where they look to repeat as state champions.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Anna Christian Beeker and Saxon Skinner both shot a 77 to lead the team.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Maddie Grace Johnson shot 82 and Kat Taylor carded an 88.
