The Oklahoma high school football season is here, and several intriguing matchups are scheduled to kick off the year.

Here are The Oklahoman’s top 10 games across the state during Week 0.

1. Class 5A No. 2 Del City at Class 6A-II No. 4 Choctaw: So many big names in this one. Oklahoma State commit and tailback Rodney Fields Jr. and TCU commit LaDainian Fields, a defensive back and receiver, will make their Del City debut after transferring from Southeast. Bishop McGuinness transfer and star quarterback River Warren will also play with the Eagles for the first time, but he’ll have to deal with Choctaw standout edge rusher Will Smith.

2. Class 6A-I No. 1 Bixby vs. No. 4 Owasso, Thursday: A rematch of last year’s state title game, this will be played at the University of Tulsa. Bixby trounced Owasso in both of their meetings last season.

3. Class 5A No. 8 Coweta at No. 1 Carl Albert: Coweta beat Carl Albert 44-14 in last year’s season opener, but Carl Albert went on to have a dominant year and claimed the Class 5A state title. OU quarterback commit Kevin Sperry will make his debut with Carl Albert after moving from Texas.

4. Class 4A No. 9 Bethany at No. 3 Jones: Jones is expected to have a realistic shot of claiming the Class 2A state crown this year. Jones quarterback Clayton Creasey will be a player to watch.

5. Class 4A No. 6 Weatherford at No. 7 Newcastle: Keep an eye on Weatherford edge rusher and receiver CJ Nickson. He’s the state’s top recruit in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder has Division-I offers in both football and basketball.

6. Class 6A-I No. 2 Tulsa Union at No. 10 Westmoore, Thursday: Westmoore has some talent this year and could have a bounce-back year after going 3-8 last season, but the Jaguars face a stiff test to begin their 2023 campaign.

8. Class 6A-I No. 9 Edmond Santa Fe at No. 3 Jenks: Edmond Santa Fe had a disappointing 1-9 season in 2022 but played Jenks close, losing 13-10.

9. Class 6A-I No. 8 Edmond Memorial at Moore: Edmond Memorial is on the rise under coach Logan Thomas, and this will be a good opening test for the Bulldogs.

10. Class 5A Noble at Piedmont: Noble lost some key players from last season, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Bears will fare against Piedmont and its flexbone offense.

*All games Friday unless noted
