Top Iowa rival flips commitment of 5-star QB recruit

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have done it. In their search for a new starting quarterback, many projected Nebraska to gain the services of former Buckeye Kyle McCord.

The former Ohio State passer entered the transfer portal and staged a visit with the Cornhuskers. It was viewed as a win-win situation for both parties involved.

It turns out that Matt Rhule had his eyes on a slightly bigger prize. Eyebrows were raised when it was revealed that McCord would join Syracuse instead of Nebraska. While some started laughing at their misfortune, anyone following the news knew something potentially huge was up.

Here it is. Nebraska has flipped the commitment of five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Matt Rhule has pulled off a massive recruiting victory, enticing the nation’s top-rated passer according to 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals away from two-time defending national champions Georgia. The Buford, Ga., native committed to the Bulldogs back in May.

Rumors of Raiola switching his commitment to his father Dominic’s alma mater, Nebraska, started to materialize last week. The Huskers earned a crystal ball prediction to flip the quarterback’s commitment on Dec. 11.

The top quarterback in the 2024 class announced his commitment to the Huskers via a poem on social media Monday evening.

For Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers, this is a nothing less than a coup. Quarterback is a position the school has struggled mightily at. They struck out in the transfer portal the past two years with Jeff Sims and Casey Thompson.

Before them, Adrian Martinez was serviceable, but nothing spectacular. Their last passer to make an all-conference team was Taylor Martinez back in 2012.

Matt Rhule is looking to turn Nebraska back into the powerhouse of the days of yesteryear. Building around a prospect like Raiola surely is a great start.
