Top boys performances: RV's Gabe Douce sets records, Northmor's Ryan Lehman wins race

CALEDONIA — River Valley's Gabe Douce made some school history during a 13-0 boys soccer victory over Pleasant last week.

The senior scored seven goals, breaking the previous mark held by Sherrod McGuire 28 years earlier. Adding in his two assists, Dounce finished with 16 points for the match, which is another school record.

Also accounting for the Vikings against Pleasant were Briley Beckley with two goals and three assists, Christian Knight with two goals and an assist, Hudson Pollock with a goal and four assists, Preston Campbell with a goal, Noah Williams with two assists and Daniel Laytart with an assist. J.R. Bates saved three shots to post his fourth shutout of the season in goal.

Douce scored two more goals with an assist during a 5-1 RV win over Loudonville. Knight added a goal and two assists, and Pollock and Beckley had goals, while Coben Reser had an assist. Bates saved two.

● In a 3-1 loss to Highland, Marion Harding's Ricardo Bautista scored a goal, and Trenton Leonard saved 15 shots.

Cross Country

● Northmor's Ryan Lehman won the Division III race at Watkins Memorial's McGowan Invitational, running a 16:53, while teammate David Blunk was runner-up with a 17:07. Also for the Golden Knights, which finished second as a team, Thomas Keen was 15th in 18:24. For North Union, Tyler Huff was fourth in 17:19.

● Marion Harding and Pleasant both competed at the heat-shortened Farmbanks Invitational at Fairbanks with Harding winning the seven-team meet with 57 points. The Spartans tied with Mechanicsburg with 64 points, but ended in third on the tie-breaker. For the Presidents, Carter Ferguson was fourth in the two miles in 10:44, Kade Sutherland sixth in 10:51, Sebastian Swihart 14th in 11:26, Peyton Ward 15th in 11:39 and Jaidin Ramirez 17th in 11:46. For Pleasant. Caleb Cameron was eight in 10:55, Nick Swartz 11th in 11:10, Will Lichtenberger 12th in 11:14, Liam Curtis 16th in 11:42 and Elijah McGinniss 17th in 11:43.

● Harding also ran at the hilly Zane Trace Invitational in southern Ohio, finishing third out of 17 teams with 110 points. Ferguson and Sutherland were fourth and fifth in 17:31 and 17:33, while Swihart was 32nd in 19:23, Andrew Tackett 41st in 19:50 and Ramirez 44th in 19:53.

● Mount Gilead beat 24 other Division III teams at the Seneca East Stars, Stripes and Lights Invitational. The Indians scored 81 points behind the running of Parker Bartlett (third, 16:17), Owen Hershner (seventh, 16:32), Will Baker (16th, 17:01), Tommy Emberg (25th, 17:53) and Nathan Smith (30th, 18:06).

● In the Division II race at Seneca East, Cardington's Aidan Reitmire was runner-up in 16:48. Highland was eighth out of 21 teams with Matthew Miller going in 17:12 for ninth, Cael Gilmore 17:37 for 18th and Brendan Lester 17:54 for 29th.

Golf

Pleasant won a pair of big meets. First, the Spartans scored a 171 to beat Galion's 173, Ontario's 177 and Marion Harding's 201 during a quad at Marion Country Club. Dylan Moore led with a 37 followed by Jack Seckel's 43, Brayden Parrish's 45, Jonathan Maran's 46, Dawson Hall's 48 and Nolan Ludwig's 53. During a match at Wyandot, the Spartans scored a 154 to beat Northmor's 162 and Highland's 173. Moore again led with a 36 followed by Hall's 37, Maran's 40, Parrish's 41, Ludwig's 42 and Seckel's 43.

● North Union topped River Valley 168-176. For NU, Miles Hall had a 41, Wyatt Davis 42, Jaxon Jolliff 42, Austyn Wilson 43, Tayden Peck 45 and Ethan Monroe 47. In a 164-167 loss to Shawnee, Davis and Peck had 41s, Wilson 42, Hall 43, Jolliff 45 and Parish 49.

● Highland ended in second place at the nine-team Marion Harding Invitational at the Marion Country Club. Dillon Gilland and Jayden Collins paced the Scots with a 77 and 82 respectively.
