Top Bartlesville-area high school sports performances from Sept. 25-30

Following are Bartlesville-area high school sports highlights from this week. This page will be updated daily.

Bartlesville High cross country

SEPT. 30: Chile Pepper (Ark.) varsity girls 5K — Gentry Turner made an explosive statement with her feet as she surged to ninth place in an elite, multi-state field at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Turner also shattered the 18:00 barrier (17:56.6), The field included nearly 650 runners, representing more than 100 schools. Bartlesville finished 25th. Other Lady Bruin finishers included: Kate Manley (145th, 20:01.6), Emily Lechuga (179th, 20:23.3), Lauren Shoesmith (185th, 20:26.0), Maryann Alvey (274th, 21:20.1), Reese Savage (355th, 22.12.2), Emma Perry (426th, 22:55.7) and Kaylin Taylor (462nd, 23:17.2),

SEPT. 30: Chile Pepper (Ark.) varsity boys 5K — The Bruins’ top two runners finished within just one second of each other in a crowded race that featured 860 runners. Will Bolding hustled to 326th (17:41.5), while Russell Miller bolted to 327th (17:41.6). Rounding out the Bruin crew were: Preston Shoesmith (653rd, 19:19.9), Grayson Tesavis (675th, 19:30.4), Logan Barnes 713th, 19:46.8), Ashton Lindsey-Brothers (714th, 19:47.6), Chase Laxson (724th, 19:59.1) and Jackson Boudreaux (817th, 21:49.4). Bartlesville finished 90th out of 130 participating schools.

Bartlesville High volleyball

SEPT. 26: Bartlesville 3, Muskogee 0 — Bartlesville (19-9) surged to the road sweep, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12. The Lady Bruins’ front row players combined for 27 kills — nine by Emry Brown, seven by Kelsey Ward, six by Rya Christensen and five by Marissa Demuth. Ward and Hayden Brandon delivered three and two aces, respectively. “We were the pretty dominant team,” coach Jen Ward said.

SEPT. 29-30: Soutmoore tournament — The Lady Bruins finished off their final regular season weekend with a strong push through the tourney. They won four of six matches to improve to 23-11 — a season high for wins for head coach Jen Ward. Bartlesville downed Norman twice by 2-0 margins; Sand Springs, 2-0; and Tulsa Union, 3-0. They fell to Westmoore, 1-2, and to Mustang, 0-3. Bartlesville finishes the regular season with home matches Monday and Tuesday.

Wesleyan Christian volleyball

SEPT. 26: Oologah 3, WCS 2 — Despite coming out on the losing end, head coach Mariah Cooks praised her team’s effort against the larger program. Oologah won, 25-19, 12-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11. Lydia Foster and Jaidyn Petermann led the way for WCS with their power hitting and blocking in the middle. Setter Kaden Holley “played well at the net with her blocks and coverage,” Cooks added. “Our setter Ave Longacre was running around all over the court. She is the one who is running our offense.” WCS (23-7) will be on the road on Thursday. The Lady Mustangs have been seeded No. 5 in their Class 3A regional and will enjoy first-round homecourt advantage.

SEPT. 28: Claremore-Sequoyah 3, WCS 0 — Lady Mustang setter Ava Longacre was slowed by a sore ankle, coach Mariah Cooks said. Kori White handled some of the setting duties. Next up, WCS is home Monday evening.

Dewey High softball

SEPT. 25: Fairland 8, Dewey 6 — Fairland pulled a bit of surprise on the Lady Doggers (23-8) in their final regular season game. But, Dewey still closed out the final two-thirds of the campaign on in torrid fashion with an 18-5 mark, after having started out a 5-3. Dewey opens regional play on Wednesday at Miami.

SEPT. 27: Regionals: Dewey 10, Muldrow 0 — Reagan White twirled the five-hit shutout, walking one and striking out five. Kyle Overton walloped four hits and drove in three runs, followed by Maycee Smith, Kirsten Kay, White and Addie Dugger with two hits each.

SEPT. 27: Regionals: Miami 1, Dewey 0 — Overton pitched a gritty classic, but suffered the loss. Dewey’s offense had opportunities, but didn’t capitalize on them, Dewey head coach Nikki Keck said.

SEPT. 28: Regionals: Dewey 10, Muldrow 0 — Dewey stayed alive by burying Muldrow for the second-straight day. White collected her second shutout of the week while tossing a four hitter and striking out seven. Kay clobbered a three-run double to end the game.

SEPT. 28: Regionals: Dewey 7, Miami 3 — Overton went in the circle again and came out on top. Chanley Herren belted two hits and drove in two runs. Smith doubled and drove in two runs. C. Sutton plated two runs.

SEPT. 28: Regionals: Miami 13, Dewey 1 — Dewey simply ran out of gas, Keck said, adding she was proud of her team for forcing the ‘if’ game. Dewey wrapped up the season with a 26-10 record — a 10-win turnaround from 2022. Keck bids good-bye to five seniors, but will welcome back both starting pitchers.

Bartlesville High softball

SEPT. 26: Sand Springs 4, Bartlesville 0: Following a sweet winning streak, the Lady Bruins (10-19) slipped to their third straight loss — on a no-hitter. Only Chelsea Goddard reached base, as a hit batsman. Lexi Durao suffered the tough pitching loss. She gave up 14 hits and two free passes, but Sand Springs scored only four times and left 12 runners stranded.

SEPT. 28: Muskogee 5, Bartlesville 2: A scoreless deadlock gripped the first three innings, but Bartlesville went up 2-0 in the top of the fourth, on runs scored by Maddie Czaja and Emerson Casey. Goddard fueled the attack with a sacrifice bunt. Kelsie Yales and Alison Rosson took turns pitching. Yales allowed only one run in 4.1 innings while striking out five.

SEPT. 29: Bartlesville 3, Tahlequah 0 — On the power of Durao’s complete-game four-hit shutout, the Lady Bruins snapped a five-game losing streak. She walked only one batter. Casey and Daniels both doubled — Casey and Czaja each recorded a RBI. Robbins added a stolen base.

SEPT. 30: Edmond Memorial 12, Bartlesville 1 — Unfortunately, the Lady Bruins collided into a hard-hitting Memorial squad that pounded 14 hits. Durao plated Goddard, who had tripled, for the Lady Bruins’ lone run. Scullawl, Czaja and Durao also each lashed a base hit. Rosson and Kylee Berry split pitching duties. Neither had the answer in boxing up the Memorial offense.

SEPT. 30: Yukon 10, Bartlesville 8 — Bartlesville (11-23) closed out a hectic week in a pitched battle against Yukon. Yukon stretched its lead to 10-5 in the top of the final inning but the Lady Bruins made a valiant three-run comeback in the bottom of the frame. Casey clobbered a homered and single and drove in three runs. Czaja socked two doubles to plate two runs, followed by Durao with a two-batter, safety and one RBI. Daniels also drove in a run and Robbins scored twice. Yales hung tough in the circle for the entire distance, allowing only six earned runs.

Dewey High cross country

SEPT. 26: Adair boys varsity 5K — The Bulldoggers finished sixth out of 10 teams despite placing two in the Top 10 — Austin Eastman (7th, 19:18) and Scott Horton (19:19). Rounding out Dewey’s nine fastest were Levi Wilson (24:08), Gage Hawkins (24:33), Tyler Roach (24:50), Tra Hicks (25:02), Zane Griggs (25:43), Kooper Crawford (26:42) and Karson Johnson (27:38).

SEPT. 26: Adair girls varsity 2-mile — Izzy Perry hustled to 17th place (14:48) to lead the small Dewey contingent. Ella Jones finished 33rd (15:58), followed by Eden McKinney (16:13).

Oklahoma Union cross country

SEPT 26: Adair girls varsity 2-mile — Oklahoma Union boasted two Top 10 finishers, Lauryn Jackson (5th, 13:26) and Makenna Goemmer (6th, 13:27), but entered only one other runner, Remington Barrett (18:41).

SEPT 26: Adair boys varsity 5K — The Cougars’ five finishers included Jimmy Williams (39th, 22:30), Jack Campos (41st, 22:42), Hayden Rogers (49th, 23;14), Deakyn Hendrix (23:56), James Bottoms (24:53),
