Top 25 uncommitted prospects in the 2014 class
Last month the National Football Post presented its very early Class of 2014 Top 25 team recruiting rankings based on the verbal commitments programs have been able to land thus far.
Today, let's take a glance at some early rankings of the Top 25 rising senior prep players in the country who are uncommitted as of now. And at the end of the summer/start of fall, I will re-evaluate these prospects and update this list.
1. DE Da'Shawn Hand, Woodbridge High School (Woodbridge, VA)
The 6-4, 245-pounder recorded 110 tackles (including 40 for loss), 16 sacks and three fumble recoveries in 2012. He plans to visit Alabama during the second week of July. The Crimson Tide have been early favorites along with Michigan, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Florida.
2. DT Andrew Brown, Oscar Frommel Smith High School (Chesapeake, VA)
The 6-4, 285-pounder finished his junior campaign with 82 tackles (including 12 for loss), and he also forced four fumbles. Virginia would love to keep him in-state, but Alabama, Florida and Ohio State are also of serious interest.
3. RB Leonard Fournette, St. Augustine High School (New Orleans, LA)
Fournette rushed for 2,136 yards and 31 touchdowns, averaging 11.2 yards per carry, during his junior campaign. The 6-1, 232-pounder added 15 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns and also returned three kicks for scores. LSU and Alabama are the frontrunners for his services.
4. QB Keller Chryst, Palo Alto High School (Palo Alto, CA)
The 6-4, 225-pound pro-style signal-caller, who has an offer from USC, has good poise and possesses very good fundamentals.
5. LB Raekwon McMillan, Liberty County High School (Hinesville, GA)
The 6-2, 234-pounder is arguably the best overall player in the state of Georgia and the best overall inside linebacker for the class of 2014.
6. CB Marlon Humphrey, Hoover High School (Hoover, AL)
The 6-foot, 179-pounder is the top defender in the state of Alabama for 2014. He is the son of Bobby Humphrey, the former outstanding tailback at Alabama.
7. OT Cameron Robinson, West Monroe High School (West Monroe, LA)
The 6-6, 325-pounder is a very good run-blocker at this stage.
8. S/WR John Smith, Long Beach Poly High School (Long Beach, CA)
The 6-1, 185-pound two-way standout, known as "JuJu," is one of Southern California's best in the Class of 2014.
9. WR Ermon Lane, Homestead Senior High School (Homestead, FL)
The 6-2, 193-pounder, who is considered the top receiver in the Sunshine State, is a good route runner with very good leaping ability.
10. DE Lorenzo Carter, Norcross High School (Norcross, GA)
The 6-5, 225-pounder has a great frame to add weight and very good instincts. This past season he led his school to the state finals for the first time in 55 years, recording 124 tackles (including 42 for loss) and forcing four fumbles and recording 18 sacks.
11. CB Adoree' Jackson, Junipero Serra High School (Gardena, CA)
The 5-10, 170-pounder has been offered scholarships by big programs such as USC, UCLA and Florida.
12. CB Tony Brown, Ozen High School (Beaumont, TX)
The 6-foot, 179-pounder is a lockdown corner who is very good in run support as well.
13. OT Damian Prince, Bishop McNamara High School (Forestville, MD)
The 6-7, 300-pounder has good athleticism and flexibility. He's a very good run blocker and pass protector.
14. DE Kentavious Street, J. H. Rose High School (Greenville, NC)
The 6-2, 256-pound weakside end has offers from major powers such as Ohio State and Florida State.
15. S Laurence Jones, Neville High School (Monroe, LA)
The 6-2, 208-pounder has the prototypical size and range for a safety.
16. ATH Michiah Quick, Central East High School (Fresno, CA)
The 6-foot, 170-pounder is considering offers from major programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, UCLA and USC. Some programs believe he fits better as a corner, but the Irish believe he can be a good receiver at the next level.
17. TE Tyler Luatua, La Mirada High School (La Mirada, CA)
The 6-3, 243-pounder just received an offer from Texas, but the top tight end has been recruited by numerous top national programs. And he has visited Alabama twice in the last two months.
18. CB Jalen Tabor, Friendship Collegiate Academy (Washington, D.C.)
The 6-1, 188-pounder has a top five of Florida, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Alabama and Florida State.
19. DT Lamont Gaillard, Pine Forest High School (Fayetteville, NC)
The 6-4, 300-pounder is considered to be a Georgia lean despite having offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and others.
20. DE Myles Garrett, James Martin High School (Arlington, TX)
The 6-5, 247-pound weakside defensive end is considered to be leaning towards Texas A&M, but keep an eye on Oklahoma and TCU.
21. OT David Sharpe, Providence School of Jacksonville (Jacksonville, FL)
The 6-6, 288-pounder has been heavily recruited by North Carolina, but Florida State and Florida are trying to keep him in-state.
22. S Laurence Jones, Neville High School (Monroe, LA)
The 6-2, 208-pounder has LSU, Alabama and Ohio State at the top of his list. He has good size, speed and explosiveness, and he projects to be a good run and pass defender.
23. RB Joe Mixon, Freedom High School (Oakley, CA)
The 6-1, 208-pounder could land at USC. He is very good at blitz pickup and often mesmerizes with some of the moves he makes while going through tackles.
24. DT Malik McDowell, Loyola High School (Detroit, MI)
The 6-5, 260-pounder is reportedly set to transfer from Loyola High School to Southfield High, according to the Detroit News. If the transfer goes through, the Michigan target will be paired with Wolverines commit Lawrence Marshall on the defensive line.
25. QB David Cornwell, Norman North High School (Norman, OK)
The 6-5, 235-pound pocket passer is appealing for a fifth year of high school eligibility, citing that he missed one year while he was being homeschooled and helping care for his ill mother. He was declared ineligible because his four years of eligibility have expired, but a final decision could be reached in the next week.
