Tom Brady Sr. calls Bill Belichick’s interpersonal skills ‘horrible’
Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had tremendous success under coach Bill Belichick, and the two ended up forming one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.
However, there was one aspect of Bill Belichick’s coaching style that Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., did not enjoy.
Belichick is known for being a tight-lipped coach, and that has given him a reputation of being tough to play for. This could be part of the reason why the 71-year-old coach has not been coveted during this coaching cycle.
The Atlanta Falcons were the only team he interviewed for as a head coach, and that job went to former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris instead.
Brady Sr. spoke with the Boston Globe’s Christopher Gasper and revealed one quality that he did not like of Belichick’s, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Adam London.
“Bill is tough,” Brady Sr. told Gasper. “He runs a military system. It’s a different generation. Bill is a great, great, great coach. But his interpersonal skills are horrible. That’s the bottom line.”
It’s hard to argue with the results Belichick put forth during the Tom Brady era. However, the post-Brady era was a little less rosy for Belichick.
Nevertheless, the coach has been consistent with his style since Day 1, and that ultimately led him to six Super Bowls and an all-time great dynasty.
