Oct. 9—ATLANTIC — Four Panthers logged course best times Thursday at a competitive Atlantic Invitational.

Boys

The Panthers had four runners under 21:00, two being seniors Anthony Eblen (20:01) and Christian Ahrens (20:44)

Ahrens knocked two minutes off his time from last year and a minute off of his course best. Eblen narrowly beat his best time at Atlantic.

Leading the boys team was sophomore Owen Weis, placing 50th with a 19:17, 20 seconds faster than his time last year.

Freshman Wyatt Goodenberger (20:50) and junior Gabe Hopkins (21:26) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

With 347 points, the Panthers took 13th place. Winning was Winterset with 44 points.

Girls

Despite their small crew, the Panthers found an eighth-place finish with 219 points, defeating two Hawkeye 10 teams.

Payton Davis continues to excel, posting a course-best time of 21:14 to place 16th. The time is the 10th fastest time by a Panther on the Atlantic course since 2015, the top nine times held by Braelyn Baker, Brielle Baker and Paige Davis.

Freshman Reese Strunk came in close behind, placing 33rd in 22:25.

Gretchen Hoepker posted a season-best time Thursday in Atlantic where she ran 24:04.

Gretchen Hoepker and Karter Clayton finished in 24:04 and 24:25, respectively. The time was Hoepker's fastest of the season.

Abby Freeman also logged her personal best of two minutes, running 26:34.

Thursday the Panthers will race in the Hawkeye 10 conference meet in Carroll.
