Thursday's prep highlights: High's buzzer-beater helps Sages sink Sabers

Mahomet-Seymour 57, Charleston 53. A 21-10 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes helped the Bulldogs (9-13) snap a five-game losing streak in an Apollo Conference game on their home floor. Jackson Bohm motored Mahomet-Seymour's offense with 22 points, Landyn Hannah added 14 points and Luke Dyer contributed seven points to the winning cause.

In girls' basketball

. Elle Jameson and Kayla Crull split a combined 16 points evenly to help the Trojans (6-21) claim a Vermilion Valley Conference contest on their home floor, with teammates McKenna Ackerman and Christine Bailey adding six points apiece. Taylor Jones and Adelyn Miller scored eight points apiece for the Cardinals (8-16), who led 16-13 at halftime.

Arthur Christian 53, Uni High 32. The host Conquering Riders (22-3) clinched the East Central Illinois Conference regular-season championship with a win over the Illineks (3-16) thanks in part to 26 points, nine steals and five assists from Addi Erwin and 16 points from Annabelle Haskins.

Arcola 48, Cerro Gordo/Bement 33. Haylei Simpson led the host Broncos (17-11) with nine points in a Lincoln Prairie Conference loss to the Purple Riders (21-5).

Bloomington Central Catholic 69, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 21. Tanner Graham scored six points and Addison Lavender added five points in an Illini Prairie Conference setback for the visiting Panthers (4-22).

Champaign Central 68, Urbana 31. Alex Parastaran's 21-point, five-rebound, four-assist performance helped the Maroons (11-16) claim a comfortable victory over the host Tigers (1-17) in Big 12 Conference play, with Samara McArthur adding 12 points and Carleigh Parks chipping in nine points and eight rebounds.

Clinton 52, Central A&M 50. A 22-8 scoring edge in the second quarter helped the host Maroons (15-11) overcome an early 13-10 deficit in a Central Illinois Conference game, with Clara Dempsey (15 points), Avery Smith (11 points) and MaKayla Koeppel (eight points) providing the majority of the Maroons' offense.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 37, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 32. Kendall Roberts scored 20 points to motor the Buffaloes (13-10) past the Blue Devils (14-13) in Vermilion Valley Conference play, with Madi Spesard chipping in 11 points to provide much of the offense in a game G/RF led 15-12 at halftime. Ella Acton paced host BHRA with seven points of her own.

LeRoy 32, Heyworth 27. Molly Buckles chipped in 13 points and Haley Cox and Natalie Loy added seven points apiece to help the Panthers (17-11) edge the Hornets in a Heart of Illinois Conference game that LeRoy led 12-9 at halftime.

Milford 34, Iroquois West 27. The Bearcats (13-13) held on after the Raiders (15-12) chipped away at a 22-6 halftime deficit and claimed victory in a VVC contest thanks to 22 points from Hunter Mowrey and eight points from Kami Muehling. Ilyana Nambo's six-point effort topped the scorebook for the Raiders.

Monticello 47, St. Thomas More 46. Maia High beat the buzzer with a putback score to help the Sages (11-16) sneak past the host Sabers (12-13) in an Illini Prairie Conference game. High totaled nine points to trail only Megan Allen's 14-point contribution among Sages scorers. Ali Weidner and Emma Arnold scored eight points apiece for Monticello, while Ruari Quarnstrom (19 points) and Grace Dimoke (12 points) teamed up to lead St. Thomas More.

Okaw Valley 61, Blue Ridge 31. A 32-18 halftime deficit proved too much to overcome for the visiting Knights (6-18), who were led by Phoebe Reynolds' 10-point performance and eight points from Kylie Madden.

Salt Fork 44, Oakwood 26. The Storm (22-5) held the host Comets off the board in the opening quarter before claiming a 22-10 halftime lead en route to a VVC victory. Macie Russell scored 13 points to lead Salt Fork (22-5), which also received 10 points from Sailor Pacot and eight points from Bracie Hird, while Jaydah Arrowsmith's 13 points paced Oakwood (11-18).

Sullivan 58, Villa Grove 14. Addison Minor and Kiley Dyer combined for 28 points, with Minor's 15-point contribution paving the way for the host Redskins to score an LPC victory over the Blue Devils. Nevaeh Dovell added five points for Sullivan (16-9) while Jobella Crafton's seven-point outing provided a spark for Villa Grove (1-16).

Tri-County 66, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 42. Josie Armstrong's 34-point explosion provided more than half of the offense for the Titans (19-9) in an LPC road win, with Sami McClain adding 10 points and Kenzie Hales chipping in eight points. Claire Seal and Sophie Monts scored 14 points apiece for the Knights (17-10).

Tuscola 46, St. Teresa 39. The Warriors (24-2) pulled away from a 17-11 halftime edge over the Bulldogs and earned a victory on the strength of 22 points, 11 rebounds and four steals from Sydney Moss, six points and six assists from Ava Boyer and six rebounds from Lia Patterson.

Watseka 35, Hoopeston Area 28. Strong performances from Megan Martin (12 points) and Christa Holohan (six points) helped the Warriors (23-3) overcome a challenge from the Cornjerkers on their home floor, with Lauren Tegtmeyer adding eight rebounds to help the winning cause. Maddie Barnes led Hoopeston Area (15-13) with 12 points, while Addyson Kelnhofer added eight points of her own.

Westville 60, Schlarman 27. Sixteen points from Gwen Bennett and 13 points from Lani Gondzur helped the host Tigers (4-21) celebrate a comfortable victory over the Hilltoppers in VVC play. Madison Duke added seven points for Westville, while Izzy Bogen paced the Hilltoppers (0-10) with 11 points of her own.
