Thursday Seacoast roundup: St. Thomas Aquinas girls basketball earns tournament's top seed

DOVER - The No. 1 seed in the upcoming Division III girls basketball tournament goes to St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

With the Division III top seed on the line, the Saints led wire-to-wire and picked up a 66-48 win over Hopkinton on Thursday at St. Thomas High School.

"That was a sweet win," St. Thomas Aquinas head coach Kevin Giannino said. "We've been waiting for this game for a couple of weeks knowing that this was going to be a big (game); playing for the No. 1 seed in front of a big crowd was great."

The Saints improved to 15-1, while Hopkinton, the likely No. 2 seed, is 13-3.

Emilie von der Linden led St. Thomas with 16 points, while Emma Toriello had 14 and Genna Bolduc and Elizabeth Flynn both had 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Exeter 54

EXETER - Sophomore Anna McGuinness had 15 points, six assists and five steals for Exeter in this Division I loss.

Junior Karli Scherpf had 14 points for the Blue Hawks, while freshman Lexy Rogers had 11, and senior Ari Pompeo had a team-high nine rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

York 75

Poland 44

YORK, Maine - Haydn Forbes had 19 points and 12 rebounds as York closed out its Class B South regular season with a win and a record of 16-3.

York head coach Jerry Hill believes the Wildcats will either be the No. 2 or 3 seed in the upcoming tournament.

Lukas Bouchard had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Wildcats, while Derek Parson had 14 points, Reece Macdonald had 12, and Connor Roberge nine.

Marshwood 40

Massabesic 37

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Liam Tiernan scored a game-high 14 points in this Class A South season-ending win for the Hawks.

Deshawn Toussaint and Ryan Essex both had 10 points for Marshwood.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Oyster River/Portsmouth 7

Bishop Brady/Trinity/Londonderry 0

DURHAM - Eliza Farwell had two goals and an assist for Oyster River/Portsmouth in this Division I win at the Whittemore Center.

Kira Jakobs had a goal and two assists in the win, while Meagan Rinko and Sienna Metcalf both had one goal and one assist. Teammates Eliza Wheeler (goal), Maeve Harney (goal) and Emma Sahr (assist) all figured in the scoring.

WRESTLING

Winnacunnet 21

ROCHESTER - Dom Young (144 pounds, 7-4), Kaden Knight (157, 10-5), and Conor Reid (165, 5-2) all won their respective weight classes by decision for Winnacunnet in this Division II match.

Winnacunnet's Zach Lavy (190) won by a first-round pin, and Ethan Gahm (106) won by forfeit.
