Thunderstorm postpones Tennessean/Metro Parks Schooldays golf tournament until Friday
A thunderstorm Thursday forced postponement of The Tennessean/Metro Parks Schooldays Golf Tournament at McCabe Course.
Play is scheduled to resume in the boys match play quarterfinals and girls semifinals at 7:30 a.m. Friday.
The storm ended around 2:30 p.m. but officials deemed the course unplayable because of standing water left by the heavy rain. There is a 25% chance for rain Friday in Nashville with a high temperature of 99 degrees expected, according to The Weather Channel.
Former boys champions Lane Walton (2022) and Carter Stroup (2021) advanced to the quarterfinals. Wednesday's low qualifier Luke Purifoy was eliminated in the first round on the first playoff hole by Conner Roberts.
Walton, 16, had taken a four-hole lead through seven holes on Roberts, 17, in the quarterfinals when play was stopped.

"Considering I am 4 up I would rather get it done and be ready to play tomorrow," said Walton, who defeated Jay Coleman 4 and 3 in the first round. "I expect the course to still be a little wet (Friday) so the ball's not going to travel far after it hits the ground. You have to be mindful of that for sure."
Stroup, 16, defeated Lucas Gupton, 16, 1-up on the 22nd hole in the first round. He was down three holes on the front nine before rallying and forcing the playoff. Stroup was 1 down against Ayden Smith, 16, through three holes in the quarterfinals.
The boys will finish their quarterfinal Friday then play the semifinal and final. After finishing their semifinal Friday the girls will play their final.
Girls low qualifier Ainsley Moore, 17, from University School of Nashville, eliminated Olivia Ridley, 14, in the quarterfinals 3 and 2, but is 1 down in the semifinals through eight holes to Rachel Waters, 16.

"It's annoying to have to stop but you can't do anything about it," Moore said. "It felt like I was playing at like eight o'clock at night because of how dark it was. But we needed the rain. It's been really humid."
Kamryn Vester, 15, defeated 2022 runner-up Addisyn Newman, 13, in the quarterfinals 5 and 4 and was 1-down to Mattie Goad, 16, through four holes in the semifinals.
Brayden Bennett, 13, defeated Chip Englander, 13, in the 12-13 division semifinals 2 and 1 while Greyson Brasfield, 13, and Bryson Frederick, 12, were still in their match when play was stopped.
