Thomas Tuchel issues update on Harry Kane injury scare ahead of England friendlies

England captain Harry Kane has picked up an injury concern ahead of this month’s friendlies with Brazil and Belgium.

Brazil visit Wembley next Saturday before Belgium come to town three days later.

But there are worries Kane will miss out after twisting his ankle while playing in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win away to Darmstadt.

The former Tottenham man hit his 31st Bundesliga strike of the season in first-half stoppage time, breaking the league record for most goals by a player in their debut campaign in the German top-tier.

However, he collided with the post in the final ten minutes and was forced off after treatment on the pitch.

“He won't take any risks with the national team,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Kane’s ankle will need to be assessed ahead of him joining up with the England squad.

Tuchel told the club website: "[Kane] twisted his ankle in the goal netting.

“He's been applying ice to it since. We don't have any news yet.

“We'll have to wait and see and hope that it's nothing major.”

Kane, 30, has suffered from a history of ankle problems during his career, although recent years have seen him stay largely injury-free.

England’s friendlies come as part of their final preparations for Euro 2024, with the Three Lions taking on Serbia in their group-stage opener in exactly three months’ time.
