To prepare for its final season in the Big 12, the Texas women's basketball team will face 13 opponents in non-conference play.

On Tuesday afternoon, UT released its non-conference schedule for this upcoming basketball season. With that release, Texas also announced that it will open this upcoming season with a home game against Southern on Nov. 8.

The marquee matchup on the non-conference schedule for Texas is a Moody Center meeting with UConn on Dec. 3. That game will be a part of the Jimmy V Women's Classic and will be televised on ABC.

In addition to UConn and Southern, Texas is set to face two other teams that reached the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Texas will travel to Arizona on Dec. 3 and battle South Florida at a November tournament in the Virgin Islands.

In total, UT's 13 non-conference opponents went 248-169 during the 2022-23 season. UConn, South Florida, Arizona, Liberty, Long Beach State and Jackson State all won at least 20 games. Nine of UT's non-conference opponents, though, are mid-major programs.

One interesting quirk on the Longhorns' schedule involves the second and third games. Texas will host Liberty on a Sunday before playing UT-Arlington the following Tuesday. Texas coach Vic Schaefer recently told reporters that he scheduled those games so close to each other because the Longhorns struggled in the 2023 NCAA Tournament when they had to play East Carolina on a Saturday and then Louisville two days later. A few weeks before Louisville ended its season, Texas blew out Oklahoma on a Saturday but was then beaten down by Baylor on the following Monday.

"We're gonna address that early on and prepare for that down the road," Schaefer said.
