Texas’ Trey Moore ranked the No. 2 edge rusher in the state

One of Texas’ biggest offseason additions came via the transfer portal in UTSA edge Trey Moore.

Although the Longhorns had a stout run defense in 2023 thanks to defensive tackles T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy, Texas lacked an outside pass rush. Head coach Steve Sarkisian put an emphasis on addressing that need this offseason by prioritizing Moore.

Moore recorded 14 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, 45 tackles and one forced fumble last season for the Roadrunners. Although the talent level from the AAC to the SEC is significant, reports have already raved about Moore’s work ethic since arriving in Austin.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine has high hopes for Moore this upcoming season as well. The publication ranked Moore as the No. 2 edge rusher in the state for the 2024 season.

One of the only holes in Texas’ team last season was a consistent outside pass rush. It was virtually non-existent in the Sugar Bowl loss to Washington, for example. Enter Moore. At UTSA, the former three-star prospect set a school record for sacks with 14 en route to becoming the 2023 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He’ll team with Barryn Sorrell and Ethan Burke off the edge for the Longhorns.

Moore trails only Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton in the ranking.
