Texas Tech Roundup: Jace Jung named Perfect Game Preseason Player of the Year
Texas Tech's Jace Jung was named Preseason Player of the Year by Perfect Game baseball Thursday.
The Red Raider junior also headlined Perfect Game's preseason All-America team.
Jung is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year after leading the conference in home runs, runs batted in, walks, on-base slugging and slugging percentage. He finished tied for fourth in the nation in both home runs (21) and RBI (67).
Florida State's Parker Messick was named Perfect Game's Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
The Red Raiders are scheduled to begin the season Feb. 18 with the first of three games in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown against Michigan. Tech will play three games at Globe Life Field in Arlington, challenging Auburn on Feb. 19 and Arizona on Feb. 20.
Texas Tech's Tyree Wilson named to AP All-Bowl Team
Texas Tech defensive lineman Tyree Wilson was selected to the Associated Press’ All-Bowl team, which was announced Thursday.
Wilson recorded a pair of key sacks and was named the defensive most valuable player in the Red Raiders’ 34-7 victory over Mississippi State in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
The senior who transferred from Texas A&M finished the season with 38 total tackles on the season (26 solo and 12 assists), 13.5 of which were for a loss of yards and a team-high seven sacks for the Red Raiders.
SMU’s Blake Bedwell to transfer to Texas Tech
SMU running back Blake Bedwell announced via Twitter that he will be transferring to Texas Tech to join the Red Raider football team.
Bedwell, an Amarillo High graduate, spent the last two years with SMU. He saw action in just two games for the Mustangs in 2021, earning four carries for 20 total yards. He redshirted in 2020.
During his high school career, Bedwell ran for 1,712 yards and 22 touchdowns, including 772 yards and 13 scores in his senior season. He is listed at 5-foot-10 and 194 pounds.
