Texas spent $280K wooing Arch Manning, eight other recruits

What’s the cost of landing arguably the top recruit in the Class of 2023?

If you are the University of Texas, the bill run up during Arch Manning’s official visit — along with 8 other recruits — was a tidy, $280,000.

The Athletic obtained public records and they disclosed how much the Longhorns spent in what turned out to be a successful pursuit of the senior quarterback from Newman in Louisiana.

He’s also the son of Cooper Manning, nephew of Eli and Peyton, and grandson of Archie.

Some of the details:

  • UT spent more than $21,000 on airfare, car service, and other travel expenses

  • Texas spent $46,696 on the 34 rooms it booked for recruits, family members, and some UT coaches and staffers.

  • The Longhorns cleared $65,000 before the recruits stepped foot on campus.

  • On Saturday night, the group splurged at III Forks, an upscale steakhouse ,,, after fees and a $6,000 tip, the bill was $36,900.

You get the picture: Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, as Mick Jagger and others have said.
