Texas players, fans react to Brennan Marion leaving for UNLV

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Sunday that UNLV is expected to hire Texas wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator Brennan Marion as its offensive coordinator.

Barry Odom took over as UNLV’s head coach this offseason after spending two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Arkansas. Odom originally hired Bobby Petrino as the Rebels’ offensive coordinator, but Petrino was hired by Texas A&M for the same role roughly three weeks later. After Petrino departed, Odom zeroed in on Marion.

Many expected Marion to be considered for dozens of different coaching positions across the country this offseason, but the news on Sunday came as a bit of a surprise.

For the last few weeks, it appeared Marion would spend at least one more season in Austin. He developed strong relationships with many of the players on Texas’ roster, and it’s unclear how his departure will impact the decisions of several players moving forward.

Here’s a look at how a few Texas players and fans digested the news.
