Texas A&M defeats Lady Vols to even series
No. 25 Texas A&M (22-12, 5-6 SEC) defeated No. 4 Tennessee (28-3, 9-2 SEC), 3-1, Saturday at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.
The Lady Vols trailed, 3-0, before mounting a comeback attempt, coming up short in the seventh inning when a fielder’s choice by Jamison Brockenbrough scored Brylee Mesusan.
The Aggies led, 1-0, in the first inning. Julia Cottrill scored on an error after advancing to third base on a wild pitch from Tennessee starting pitcher Karlyn Pickens (6-3).
Texas A&M extended its advantage to 2-0 in the third inning on an RBI triple by Keely Williams.
The Aggies scored one run in the fifth inning. Koko Wooley recorded an RBI infield single.
The Lady Vols recorded two hits in the contest. McKenna Gibson and Rylie West hit singles for Tennessee.
Pickens pitched three innings and allowed two unearned runs, two hits and one walk. She recorded four strikeouts.
