Texas football's Quinn Ewers breaks passing record in Big 12 Championship Game

ARLINGTON — With an all-out offensive assault on Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game, quarterback Quinn Ewers led Texas football to the Big 12 championship while setting multiple Big 12 championship-game records.

Quinn Ewers threw for 452 yards on 35-of-46 passing while shattering the previous Big 12 title-game record of 384 yards passing set by Oklahoma's Sam Bradford in 2008. He also tied the game's record of four touchdown passes while helping Texas amass a title-game record 662 yards.

"I thought Quinn was lights out today, man," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. "The biggest thing today was when the first read was there, he was throwing the ball really accurately. And guys were making plays.

"But I thought the thing that showed up today was him getting to secondary reads and getting through progressions and still throwing the ball really accurately and giving guys chances to make plays."

Ewers agreed with his coach, but he also said "keeping a level head" also proved crucial, especially after he threw his lone interception in the first half.

"I think just the way I'm able to stay poised, even though maybe things aren't going our way, like that pick," he said when asked about his improvement over the course of the season. "I'm not just focusing on the negativity but focusing instead on what we've been doing good."

Ewers also ended the game with the third most passing yards in a single game in Texas school history behind Major Applewhite ( 473) and Colt McCoy (470).
