Texas among top schools for four-star WR Jaquaize Pettaway

The Longhorns are still in the running for one of the top prospects in the state of Texas for the 2023 recruiting class.

Four-star wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway announced the top schools left in his recruitment on Friday. Texas made the cut alongside Georgia, Ole Miss, TCU, Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon, Houston, Cincinnati and Ohio State.

The Houston native is rated the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Texas and the No. 4 wide receiver in the country for the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

Pettaway also competes in track and field and ran a 10.55 100-meter and a 21.72 200-meter as a sophomore for Langham Creek High School. On the football field, he was a Texas 16-6A unanimous first-team all-district selection as a junior.

In 2021, Pettaway hauled in 50 receptions for 794 yards and seven touchdowns.

Here’s what 247Sports recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna had to say about the speedy playmaker:

Projects to a high level multi-year Power Five starter at the next level that has the ability to be featured early in his career because of his ability to stretch the field. Expect him to contribute early in the return game as well at the next level. Has room to continue to develop as a route runner but has an excellent day one foundation with his speed.
