What do the Texans still owe David Culley after firing him as coach?
The Houston Texans made a move at coach and fired David Culley on Thursday.
The move comes after Houston finished 4-13, tallying their second consecutive season of double-digit losses since 2005-06. Those two seasons were the last of the Dom Capers era and first of the Gary Kubiak age. Culley’s lone season completes a two-year sojourn away from the postseason that began with Bill O’Brien’s firing after an 0-4 start in 2020.
Culley originally signed a five-year contract with the Texans in January 2021 to be their fourth full-time coach in team history. With the Texans getting rid of Culley after a year, what do they still owe the 66-year-old?
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Texans still owe Culley $17 million over the next three years. In total, Culley gets $22 million for leading the Texans to a 4-13 record in 2021.
