Texans QB Kyle Allen cites execution as main issue against the Dolphins
Kyle Allen hadn’t started an NFL game since 2020 with Washington amid the COVID year in the NFL where some stadiums had a paucity of fans and some had none at all.
The Houston Texans turned to Allen as their change of pace under center as they weren’t getting the results they anticipated with second-year starter Davis Mills.
Allen hardly looked better than Mills as he completed 26-of-39 for 215 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions amid Houston’s 30-15 loss, which saw them fall down 30-0 to Miami by halftime.
Even though Allen was seeing his first significant action since 2020, the former Texas A&M and Houston Cougar field general didn’t believe the speed of the game was ahead of his reflexes.
“No, we just didn’t execute,” said Allen. “We just weren’t executing. I think offense, we struggled early. And like I said, the interception put us in a really bad spot. We blinked and it was 17-0. We just got to be able to start faster and play better early in the game.”
The Dolphins went with backup quarterback Skylar Thompson after their first series in the second half.
Houston slipped to 1-9-1 on the year and is still on pace to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
