Tennis legend Martina Navratilova doing 'OK' after 'difficult' battle with cancer

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is sharing a health update.

While accepting the Racchetta d'Oro (Golden Racket) award at the Italian Open on Sunday, the 66-year-old said she's doing "OK" after being diagnosed with throat and breast cancer in December.

"I've gone through a very difficult year, but now I'm OK," Navratilova said during her acceptance speech.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion previously underwent treatment for early-stage breast cancer in 2010, but found out in December that she had stage 1 throat cancer after noticing an enlarged lymph node in her neck during the WTA Finals in November. Further tests showed a recurrence of breast cancer. She announced she would undergo treatment in January and revealed in March that her cancer was in remission.

"Tennis gave me a surprising life for which I am very grateful," Navratilova added. "I always tried to give something back when I played and also in retirement."

Navratilova was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000. She won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, including the 1983 U.S. Open against Chris Evert. The victory helped propel her to a Career Grand Slam. At the time, she became the seventh woman to reach the milestone. Navratilova also won 31 major women's doubles titles and 10 major mixed doubles titles, for a combined total of 59 major titles.

Navratilova has served as a studio analyst for the Tennis Channel since retirement. She stepped away from the broadcast booth earlier this year while undergoing treatment, but returned in March after her cancer went into remission.
