Tennessee baseball score today vs Southern Miss in super regional Game 2: Live updates

HATTIESBURG, Miss. − Tennessee baseball is in win-or-go-home mode.

The Vols face Southern Miss in Game 2 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, ESPN). UT dropped the opener 5-3 in a game that concluded Sunday after being suspended in the fifth inning Saturday.

Chase Dollander is starting for Tennessee in Game 2. He was the starting pitcher in Tennessee's Game 2 win against Notre Dame in the Knoxville Super Regional last season.

The Vols had only four hits in Game 1 against Southern Miss, which slugged a pair of homers off Andrew Lindsey to take a 4-0 lead before the pair of weather delays.

Tennessee is playing in its third straight super regional. The Vols have to win two straight against Southern Miss to reach the College World Series for the second time under Tony Vitello.

Ninth inning

Southern Miss 9th: Dollander issues a leadoff walk. Chase Burns will replace him on the mound to get the final three outs.

Burns strikes out Monistere on a 3-2 fastball. 1 out.

Paetow grounds into a 4-6-3 double play to end it. Game 3 to decide things on Monday.

FINAL: Tennessee 8, Southern Miss 4

Tennessee 9th: Merritt has his fourth hit of the game, a single, but nothing else for the Vols. Dollander out for the 9th.

Eighth inning

Southern Miss 8th: Dollander up to 105 pitches. He'll be out again for the 9th. What a turnaround for him and the Vols, up 8-4.

Tennessee 8th: Vols down in order against Kros Sivley, who has bridged well out of the bullpen.

Seventh inning

Southern Miss 7th: Dollander is rolling through the USM lineup now. 1-2-3 inning.

Tennessee 7th: Denton reaches via E6, and Merritt singles. But no insurance for the Vols.

Sixth inning

Southern Miss 6th: Another 1-2-3 inning for Dollander, who has settled in now.

Tennessee 6th: Ensley singles, but nothing else in the UT 6th.

Fifth inning

Southern Miss 5th: A Dickerson single but nothing else in the USM 5th.

Tennessee 5th: A walk, a Brian Burke double and an E3 giftwraps two runs for the Vols. Tanner Hall was lifted, by the way, with one out after the walk and a fielder's choice.

Tennessee is rolling now. What a change after the first three innings. Tennessee 8, Southern Miss 4.

Fourth inning

Southern Miss 4th: A much-needed 1-2-3 inning for Dollander.

Tennessee 4th: Christian Moore doubles, and Griffin Merritt drives him in with an RBI single.

On the next at-bat, Blake Burke goes 479 feet to right for a two-run home run. My gosh it was crushed. Southern Miss 4, Tennessee 3.

Stark walks, Ahuna singles and Ensley is HBP. Here comes Jared Dickey with two out and the bases loaded.

Dickey line drive into centerfield gets past Etzel, and he clears the bases. It'll be an E8 and three runs for the Vols. Tennessee 6, Southern Miss 4.

Third inning

Southern Miss 3rd: Hunter Ensley tries to dive for a well-hit ball by Etzel, and Ensley can't get there. Etzel with a leadoff triple.

Dickerson with an RBI single to right field. Southern Miss 1, Tennessee 0.

Frank Anderson spends a mound visit chatting mostly with the home plate umpire. And on the next pitch, Christopher Sargent hits a line-drive 3-run home run off the scoreboard in left field. Southern Miss 4, Tennessee 0.

No matter how much trust the UT coaches have in Dollander, there could be a quick hook today. Vols in a must-win situation.

Tennessee 3rd: Tanner Hall is dealing, and the Vols are off-balance. Ensley and Dickey with some ugly swings on strikeouts. Hall at 46 pitches. He may get 146 pitches to finish this one for USM.

Second inning

Southern Miss 2nd: Danny Lynch doubles to lead off the inning. But Dollander strands him to end the inning.

Tennessee 2nd: Denton reaches via E3, and Griffin Merritt singles to left field. A groundball allows for just the out at second, and Christian Scott is HBP to load the bases. Cal Stark strikes out to end the inning.

First inning

Southern Miss 1st: Matthew Etzel singles, and an Ahuna error gets another USM baserunner on. But Chase Dollander gets back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

Tennessee 1st: Tanner Hall gets the ball for USM. The Vols' top of the lineup goes down in order.
