Technically, the Bucs are getting 2 new Hall of Famers this year
Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans rejoiced when it was announced Thursday night that Rondé Barber would finally be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
But technically, Barber won’t be the only former Bucs player going into Canton this year.
He’ll be joined by Darrelle Revis, who played one of his 11 NFL seasons in Tampa Bay.
The year after Barber retired following a 16-year career with the Bucs, Tampa Bay traded its first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft to the Jets for Revis, who was coming off a season-ending knee injury that limited him to just two games the year before.
Revis started all 16 games for the Bucs in 2013, but Tampa Bay wasted his best traits by forcing him to play in their zone-heavy scheme, instead of taking advantage of his dominance in man coverage. Even so, he was named to one of his seven Pro Bowls that year.
After just one season, the Bucs tried to trade Revis, but ultimately released him to avoid paying his $16 million salary the following season.
It was one of the worst trades in Bucs history (and that’s saying something), but he’s still technically a former member of the team heading to the Hall of Fame alongside Barber.
