Taylor Phillips, Roman Roth voted the Register's female and male Athletes of the Week
New London girls golfer Taylor Phillips and Washington boys golfer Roman Roth were voted the Des Moines Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of April 29-May 5.
London won female Athlete of the Week with 44% of the vote. Wahlert Catholic girls track and field athlete Rylee Steffen placed second with 29%.
Phillips tied for the third-lowest 18-hole score in the state for girls golf during the Burlington Invitational on April 30 at the Flint Hills Golf Course.
Phillips carded a 2-under-par score of 69 to win medalist by one stroke over Muscatine's Rylee Brockhouse.
Roth was voted male Athlete of the Week with 94% of the vote. Waukee boys track and field athlete Jonas VanDis was a distant second with 3%.
Roth matched the best 18-hole score in 3A boys golf, according to Varsity Bound, at the Mount Pleasant Invitational on May 1.
Roth carded a 5-under-par score of 67 to win medalist by four strokes. His score is tied with Knoxville's Evan Smith and Solon's Isaiah Zoske for the best 18-hole round in 3A this season.
