Tarell Brown will be at minicamp next week
Tarell Brown has not been present for the first time this offseason when the San Francisco 49ers host their mandatory veteran minicamp next week.
But Brown says he has not been away in any effort to express displeasure with his contract situation, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
Instead, Brown has opted to remain and train in Texas as he prepares for the final season of a contract that will pay him $2.925 million this season.
"For me, I wanted to do a different type of training to get my body ready," Brown told Inman. "Last year, I feel my body broke down a bit at the end of the season.
"That contract situation, I try to stay away from that. The biggest thing is the team. By making plays and going out and working hard, everything else will take care of itself."
Of course, Brown said he would “love” an extension before training camp kicks off next month but he isn’t dwelling on that. He has been in touch with defensive backs coach Ed Donatell, who has sent him film to review.
“I keep all my notepads, and I've gone over them every night for the last two months," Brown said.
The 49ers lost safety Dashon Goldson, Brown’s close friend, but added veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and Brown will certainly be counted on to have a big season. Perhaps that will be the key to him receiving the pay day he is seeking.
