Talented bunch in Week 2: Vote for top Gardner area performances

Gardner area sports were back and blazing for Week 2 of the fall season. Rain once again interfered with games, but that did not stop athletes from putting on some great performances as they got settled in with their seasons.

Readers voted golfer Max Doane as Athlete of the Week in Week 1, receiving 36.6% of the votes. Doane earned medalist honors and led Oakmont past Fitchburg and Shepherd Hill in a tri-match last week.

Boys Soccer

Seth Twarong scored two goals in Quabbin’s 2-1 win over Maynard on Tuesday. Jacoby Dillingly and Jenkins Miller each notched an assist.

Girls Soccer

Gardner tied with Clinton 1-1 on Thursday. Gardner’s Emma McNamara scored the tying goal in the second half after being down 1-0 much of the game.

Field Hockey

Oakmont’s Julia LaPrade scored two goals in the third quarter to lift the Spartans past Quabbin 3-2 on Monday. Addison Roy scored the other goal for Oakmont, and Makenzie Casey and Annabelle Magill each scored for Quabbin.

Abbie Girouard tallied two goals in Monty Tech’s 3-0 victory over Bay Path.

Narragansett earned its first victory of the season against Littleton on Friday. The Warriors won 2-0, with goals coming from Lily Celata and Madyson Hemlin. Mia Manca earned an assist in the win.

Boys Golf

Michael Cannon was the medalist in Monty Tech’s match against Bay Path. His 2-over 38 led the Bulldogs past Bay Path 158-196.

Boys Cross Country

In a tri-meet, Oakmont defeated North Middlesex but fell to Groton-Dunstable. Jayden Brostrom was the top finisher for the Spartans with a time of 18:24.

Telmo Iturbe came in first place for Gardner in a meet that they topped Narragansett 21-40. Iturbe completed Gardner’s 2.6 mile course with a time of 15:21.

Girls Cross Country

Krista Bettez earned first place (17:57) in the Gardner/Narragansett meet, leading the Wildcats past Gansett 22-33.
