Tale of the tape: Breaking down the Iowa Hawkeyes versus Iowa State Cyclones statistically

The Iowa Hawkeyes renew their annual in-state rivalry with the Iowa State Cyclones today from Duke Slater Field at Kinnick Stadium. It’s the first time the matchup has taken place in Iowa City since 2018.

After dispatching of South Dakota State last week 7-3, Iowa is focused on improvement in a hurry offensively. There’s plenty of keys to success in the game to break down, but the biggest is figuring out how to put points on the board.

Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz understands that the Cyclones always present a serious challenge and that 2022 stands to be no different.

“It’s still Iowa-Iowa State and it’s a big game for everybody in the state. It’s certainly a big game for both programs. I don’t want to speak for their side, but I’m sure they’re like us, everybody on our team wants to win this game. They want to win it. It’s a big game,” Ferentz said.

While the two teams only have one game against FCS opponents to go off of, here’s a look at how each of the two teams stack up statistically heading into the 2022 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series battle.
