Takeaways as Hawkeye women cruise past Croatian Club Team in second overseas date

Working around visits to Pompeii, Italian gelato stands and zip lining in Croatia, the Iowa Hawkeyes have indeed been able to play a little basketball overseas.

After rolling past Team Slammers in Italy, Iowa’s foreign tour continued with a date against the Croatian Club Team.

Here’s a look at several key takeaways from the Hawkeyes’ convincing 106-53 win.

Caitlin Clark doing Caitlin Clark things

After dropping 17 points against Team Slammers, Caitlin Clark put on a show against the Croatian Club Team. The West Des Moines product canned 6-of-13 3-pointers, shot 50% from the floor and finished with 30 points.

Molly Davis impresses

With drives to the bucket like that one, Molly Davis finished a very efficient 7-of-9 from the floor shooting with 17 points. She also connected on 3-of-5 3-point tries. The Midland, Mich., native also added seven assists.

Hannah Stuelke keeps performing well

It’s now back-to-back games that Hannah Stuelke has finished as a double-figure scorer overseas. Stuelke registered 12 points against Team Slammers and followed up that performance with a 15-point outing against the Croatian Club Team. The Cedar Rapids product was 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed four rebounds.

Seven Hawkeyes were in double figures scoring against Team Slammers, but it was just the aforementioned three against the Croatian Club Team.

Still, Iowa saw balanced contributions across the rest of its roster. Guard Sydney Affolter and center Addison O’Grady each scored nine, guard Kate Martin and forward Jada Gyamfi added seven points and guard Taylor McCabe pitched in with six points.

Against the Croatian Club Team, Iowa shot 47.6% from the field, including 40.5% from 3-point distance. The Hawkeyes had 25 assists to 14 turnovers, while coming away with 15 steals. Iowa out rebounded the Croatian Club Team, 56-38.

“We’re not really having to run our offense because our transition is so good right now,” Bluder said. “We were just taking what the defense gave us. Molly was fantastic today. The way she was moving the ball and shooting it was fun to watch.”

The Hawkeyes conclude their overseas trip with one final contest against the Croatian All-Stars on Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
