The T&G Hometeam girls' skiing all-stars for winter 2022-23

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, with the Central Mass High School Sports Awards program, presented by DCU – Digital Federal Credit Union, is proud to announce the nominees for girls' skiing. The winner will be announced during the live show Wednesday, June 28 at the Hanover Theatre.

During the live show, these nominees will be honored, along with the athletes of the year in 31 other sports with Athletes of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, and a Courage Award.

Libby Bassage

Bromfield School, Freshman

Bassage ranked 13th individually in the Mass Bay West Alpha Division. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Bassage finished 60th in the giant slalom. Having fun with her teammates at practices and races was her most memorable moment of the season. Bassage is also a member of Bromfield’s soccer and softball teams. She is the daughter of Kevin and Amy Bassage of Harvard.

Jillian Bradford

Nashoba Regional, Freshman

Bradford, who is a student at Tahanto Regional, had an outstanding freshman season for the Wolves. She was No. 1 individually in the Mass Bay West Omega Ski League and had three first-place finishes. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Bradford posted a pair of top-6 finishes. She was fifth in the giant slalom and sixth in the slalom. She is the daughter of Cathy and Joel Bradford of Boylston.

Alexa Butterfield

Algonquin Regional, Senior

Butterfield earned her third straight T&G Super Team honor after finishing fourth individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League and leading the Titans to the top spot in the team standings with a 39-1 record. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Butterfield was 43rd in the giant slalom. She earned Mid-Wach all-star accolades. Senior Night was her most memorable moment of the season. In the fall, she will attend the University of Vermont, where she will study environmental engineering. She plans to race for UVM’s club team. She is the daughter of Brian Butterfield and Malissa Jean-Charles of Southborough.

Astrid Lee

Nipmuc Regional, Senior

Lee finished 12th individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League. Qualifying for the state meet, in her sixth season on the team, was her most memorable moment of the season. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, she finished 47 in the giant slalom and 90th in the slalom. She was a team captain. In the fall, she will attend Clark University, where she will study on a pre-med track and minor in art. She hopes to become a doctor or psychiatrist. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Jennifer Lee of Mendon.

Anyee Li

Shrewsbury, Junior

Li earned her third straight T&G Super Team honor after finishing No. 1 individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Li finished 34th in both the slalom and giant slalom. She was a team captain. The team staying positive and having fun in rainy races and warm snow was her most memorable moment of the season. She is the daughter of Hongyan Wang and Bruce Li of Shrewsbury.

Ellie Lubin

Wachusett Regional, Senior

Lubin made it four straight T&G Super Team selections after an outstanding finish to her career. The two-year captain was second individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League and posted multiple top-3 finishes this winter. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Lubin finished ninth in the slalom and 13th in the giant slalom. She qualified for the Eastern High School Ski Championships. She was a four-time team MVP. Senior Night was her most memorable moment of the season. In the fall, Lubin will attend the University of Utah, where she will study marketing. She is the daughter of Kent and Allison Lubin of Princeton.

Neve Martin

Lunenburg-Leominster, Senior

Martin, who is a student at Littleton High, earned her fourth straight T&G Super Team honor. She was seventh individually in the Mass Bay West Omega Division. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Martin finished 27th in the slalom and 53rd in the grand slalom. She was a three-sport captain, leading the soccer and lacrosse teams in addition to the ski team, and she was a two-time Mid-Wach all-star in soccer. In the fall, she will attend Georgetown University, where she will study a pre-law track. She is the daughter of Bill Martin and Jacqueline Kral of Bolton.

Abigail Reid

Lunenburg-Leominster, Junior

Reid, who is a student at Littleton High, finished fourth individually in the Mass Bay West Omega Division. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Reid was 32nd in the slalom and 42nd in the giant slalom. She hopes to pursue a career in environmental science. She is the daughter of Geoffrey and Jessica Reid of Littleton.

Kate Robinson

Wachusett Regional, Sophomore

Robinson earned her second consecutive T&G Super Team accolade following a strong performance at the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East. Robinson finished third in the slalom and 23rd in the giant slalom. She qualified for the U16 Eastern Championships. Robinson ranked seventh individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League. The state meet was her most memorable moment of the season. She is the daughter of Susan and David Robinson of Princeton.

Nina Szymanowski

Nipmuc Regional, Senior

Szymanowski, who is a student at Northbridge High, finished sixth individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Szymanowski was 46th in the giant slalom and 74th in the slalom. She was a team captain. Senior Night was Szymanowski’s most memorable moment of the season. She stars in tennis at Northbridge and was a SWCL all-star. She is the daughter of Barbara Szymanowska and Slawek Szymanowski of Northbridge.

Jula Utzschneider

Algonquin Regional, Senior

Utzschneider earned her third straight T&G Super Team honor after finishing third individually in the Central Mass. Conference Ski League and helping to lead the Titans to the top of the team standings with a 39-1 record. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Utzschneider was 17th in the giant slalom and 24th in the slalom. She was a team captain. Utzschneider’s most memorable moment of the season was celebrating coach Wayne Hey, who is retiring after 25 years, at the final race of the season. She is undecided on her college choice, but she plans to study biochemistry on a pre-med track. She is the daughter of Adrienne Sutton and Peter Utzschneider of Northborough.

Ella Varnerin

Nashoba Regional, Senior

Varnerin earned her second T&G Super Team honor after an outstanding regular season and impressive showing at the state meet. She was second individually in the Mass Bay West Omega Division. At the MIAA Alpine Ski Tournament at Berkshire East, Varnerin finished third in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom. She earned an invitation to the Eastern High School Championships and was captain of the Massachusetts team, which was her most memorable moment of the season. She finished sixth in the slalom and 10th in the giant slalom and was the No. 1 skier from Massachusetts. In the fall, Varnerin will attend the University of Vermont Honors College, where she will study health and medicine. Varnerin works as an EMT in Bolton. She is the daughter of Amy and John Varnerin of Stow.
