The T&G Hometeam girls' basketball all-stars for winter 2022-23
The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, with the Central Mass High School Sports Awards program, presented by DCU – Digital Federal Credit Union, is proud to announce the nominees for girls' basketball. The winner will be announced during the live show Wednesday, June 28, at the Hanover Theatre.
During the live show, these nominees will be honored, along with the athletes of the year in 31 other sports with Athletes of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, and a Courage Award.

Emmy Allyn
Wachusett Regional, Senior, Point guard
Allyn, Wachusett’s floor general whom coach Jim Oxford often referred to as an extension of himself on the court, repeated as a T&G Super Team selection after helping the Mountaineers to the Division 1 state semifinals for the second straight year. Allyn averaged 10 points, 2 steals, 5 assists and 2 rebounds. She scored a team-high 17 points in Wachusett’s 61-57 loss to Andover in the state semis, her last game, which was her most memorable moment of the season. Allyn was a team captain and Mid-Wach A all-star. In the fall, she will attend WPI, where she will study engineering and play basketball. She is the daughter of Kelly and Keith Allyn of Rutland.
Bryan Bascones
South High, Sophomore, Forward
Bascones averaged 11.7 points to lead a balanced Colonels scoring attack, and she helped South win 22 straight games. The Colonels’ only loss was to Foxborough in the second round of the Division 2 state tournament. South won its 22 games by an average margin of 30 points. Bascones was the Inter-High MVP. In an early-season win at Dracut, Bascones scored 26 points and had 20 rebounds. The bus ride back to Worcester after the game was her most memorable moment of the season. Bascones hopes to become a guidance counselor or therapist. She is the daughter of Brandyn and Felipe Bascones of Worcester.
Elizabeth Cain
Wachusett Regional, Junior, Forward
A serious elbow injury caused Cain to miss her sophomore season at Wachusett, but she came back strong this year and helped lead the Mountaineers to their second straight Division 1 state semifinal appearance. Cain averaged 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, and she earned Mid-Wach A all-star honors. Cain was terrific in the postseason, especially in Wachusett’s victory over Springfield Central in the tournament quarterfinals. She scored a team-high 18 points and, defensively, helped shut down Central’s talented frontcourt. The win, which got Wachusett to the Final Four, was Cain’s most memorable moment of the season. She hopes to study mathematics or science in college. She is the daughter of Kristine and Stuart Cain of Jefferson.
Jessica Forbes
Tahanto Regional, Senior, Center
Forbes repeated as a T&G Super Team selection after averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds and helping Tahanto to the first round of the Division 4 state tournament. Forbes posted 11 double-doubles on the season, including a 16-point, 12-rebound performance in a win over Hopedale in the Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association tourney. In that game, Forbes scored the 1,000th point of her career. Forbes, a two-year captain, was co-MVP of Mid-Wach D. Her most memorable moment of the season was beating rival West Boylston, 61-59, in double overtime. Forbes led the way with a game-high 30 points. Forbes, who was also a T&G Super Team honoree for soccer, will attend Worcester State University in the fall, and she will play soccer. She is the daughter of Amy and John Forbes of Clinton.
Mary Gibbons
Wachusett Regional, Junior, Guard
Gibbons made it a three-peat as a T&G Super Team selection after averaging 18.5 points and helping the Mountaineers to the Division 1 state semifinals. She led her team in scoring and ranked among the leaders in Central Mass. Gibbons, known for her long-range shooting, buried 66 3-pointers. Gibbons earned her second straight Mid-Wach A MVP honor. Beating Springfield Central in the state quarterfinals, and avenging last season’s loss in the state semis, was among Gibbons’ most memorable moments of the season. Gibbons aided Wachusett’s outstanding defensive effort in the 51-39 victory, and she sank a 3-pointer during a decisive third-quarter run. Gibbons is verbally committed to the United State Naval Academy. She is looking forward to her senior season at Wachusett, and continuing her academic and athletic career at Navy. She is the daughter of Amanda and Tom Gibbons of Holden.
Alexa Gibson
Nipmuc Regional, Senior, Forward
Gibson averaged 17.8 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors to 13 wins and an appearance in the Division 3 state tournament. An all-around contributor, Gibson also averaged 4 assists, 4 blocks and 3.4 steals per game. Gibson, a two-year captain, was the Dual Valley Conference Player of the Year, and she earned conference all-star honors for the third time. Her most memorable moments of the season were Senior Night, when her family and friends, and members of the youth program were there to cheer her on, and scoring 28 points in the first round of the Clark Tournament. In the fall, Gibson will attend St. John Fisher, where she will play basketball. She is the daughter of Paula and Michael Gibson of Upton.
Avery Marzo
Notre Dame Academy, Senior, Guard
Marzo earned her second straight T&G Super Team accolade after leading NDA to the semifinals of the Division 4 state tournament. Marzo led Central Mass. in points with 542, was second in scoring average at 22.6 points per game, and ranked fourth in made 3-pointers with 53. Marzo scored 1,017 points across her junior and senior seasons. Marzo, a team captain, scored 33 points in NDA’s 58-56 quarterfinal win over Cohasset, and leading her team to the state final four for just the second time in school history was her most memorable moment of the season. The Rebels finished 20-5. In the fall, Marzo will attend Trinity College, where she will play basketball. She plans to pursue a career in public policy/law. She is the daughter of Joseph and Susan Marzo of Shrewsbury.
Hanorah Murphy
Auburn, Senior, Guard
Murphy repeated as a T&G Super Team selection after leading Central Mass. in scoring average with 25.8 points per game and helping the Rockets reach the postseason for the first time in seven years. Auburn fell to Hudson in the first round of the Division 3 state tourney. Murphy, a two-year captain, averaged 7.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.8 blocks. She registered seven double-doubles and made 80% of her free-throw attempts. She was the SWCL MVP, and she averaged 26 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games of the Lady Rocket Classic to earn MVP honors in that tourney. Scoring her 1,000th point, in a total team effort against Grafton, was her most memorable moment of the season. Murphy finished her career with 1,217 points. In the fall, she will attend Williams College. She is undecided on her major. She is the daughter of Margaret and Michael Murphy of Auburn.
Kaylin O'Meara
Littleton, Senior, Guard
O’Meara averaged 14.4 points and seven rebounds to lead the Tigers to the semifinals of the Division 4 state tournament. In Littleton’s win over Tyngsborough in the quarterfinals, O’Meara scored 14 points, and the Tigers avenged three regular-season losses to Tyngsborough. The victory, and advancing to the Final Four, was O’Meara’s most memorable moment of the season. She averaged 3 assists and 3 steals this season, and she finished her career with 869 points. O’Meara was the co-MVP of Mid-Wach C, and she earned league all-star honors for the third time. She is a three-time team MVP. In the fall, O’Meara will attend Emerson College, where she will study marketing. She is the daughter of Melissa and Marc O’Meara of Littleton.
Madison Pitro
West Boylston, Junior, Guard
Pitro averaged 15 points and helped lead the Lions to the quarterfinals of the Division 5 state tournament. Pitro, a team captain, added 4.2 assists, 5.2 steals, 2.5 blocks and 2.7 rebounds per game, and she was co-MVP of Mid-Wach D. Pitro averaged 16.3 points in the Lions’ three state tournament games. She averaged 16 points in the Tahanto Holiday Tournament to lead the Lions to two wins and earn MVP honors. Taking part in Clark Tournament media day, and playing in the first girls’ Clark Tournament in 50 years, were Pitro’s most memorable moments of the season. She is the daughter of Danielle and John Pitro of West Boylston.
Emily Quinn
Nashoba Regional, Senior, Point Guard
Quinn averaged 13 points, 5 assists and 2 steals to lead the Wolves to the second round of the Division 2 state tournament. Quinn, who helped Nashoba finish 17-5, earned Mid-Wach B all-star honors. Quinn was a two-year captain. She scored a career-high 30 points in a win over Shrewsbury. Her most memorable moment of the season was playing at Worcester State’s Brissette Court in the Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association Class A final against South. In the fall, Quinn will attend Bridgewater State University, where she will study business management. She is the daughter of Nicole and Matt Quinn of Lancaster.
Theresa Sartiah
Senior, Sutton, Guard/Forward
Sartiah, her team’s only senior, averaged 13.7 points to lead the Suzies to the semifinals of the Division 5 state tournament. In Sutton’s quarterfinal win over Carver, Sartiah, a two-year captain, scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds and 7 blocks. The Suzies finished 20-4. Beating Millbury to capture the Clark Tournament Small Schools title and adding another trophy to Sutton’s case was Sartiah’s most memorable moment of the season. She was the Dual Valley Conference Player of the Year and a two-time DVC all-star. In the fall, she will attend UMass-Dartmouth, where she will major in finance. She is the daughter of Victoria and Ebenezer Sartiah of Sutton.
