Support flows for Dominique Badji following racist social media posts attacking him

FC Cincinnati forward Dominique Badji announced Monday he was subjected to racial abuse on a social media platform. FC Cincinnati offered its support and services to Badji in the wake of the incident.

Badji on Monday took to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal the nature of the abuse he faced on Instagram. Badji also released a message, which stated: "Being racially abused is a deeply painful reminder of the persistent racism that lingers in our society. Racism has no place in our world. No one should endure such injustice based on their ethnicity or race. I pray for more peace, love and positivity."

An FC Cincinnati spokesperson told The Enquirer the club reported the social media account in question, checked in with Badji personally and offered the player additional support.

By 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Instagram account in question appeared to be disabled.

As Monday progressed, fans and teammates spoke out in support of Badji.

"I stand with Dom," wrote teammate Nick Hagglund on X. "There is no place in our game or the world for racism or hatred based on ethnicity. There is no reason for him to ever open his phone to messages like this. Hoping for a day when the world is better."

FC Cincinnati's team account said: "We are with you, Dom. Racism has no place in our sport or in our society. No one should have to suffer this intolerance, and we are working with MLS to protect our players from racist abuse."

Badji released his messages on X the day after he played a starring role in FC Cincinnati's MLS Cup playoff victory against New York Red Bulls. Now in his second season with FC Cincinnati, he scored five goals and three assists during the 2023 regular season. The eight goal contributions were his most since his 2019 season with FC Dallas.
