SUNY Oneonta women's soccer suffers first loss to Brockport

Oct. 2—The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to SUNY Brockport 1-0.

Jaylah Cossin scored the game's only goal in the 54th minute for Brockport.

Bryanna Meehan made 13 saves in the loss for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta (4-1-3) will host SUNY Cortland Wednesday.

Hartwick 8, Nazareth 0 (Saturday)

The Hartwick field hockey team rolled to an 8-0 victory over Nazareth Saturday.

The Hawks scored four goals in the first quarter and never looked back.

Julie Ruzzi, Ashley Tricarico and Danielle Hand each scored twice in the win while Holly Calore and Kylie Krawiec scored as well.

Ashley Luppens made one save to earn the shutout.

Hartwick (6-1) will visit Russell Sage Wednesday.

SUNY Oneonta 2, Ramapo 1 (Saturday)

A late game-winner helped SUNY Oneonta defeat Ramapo 2-1 Saturday.

Emilia Montgomery found the back of the net in the 58th minute off an assist by Morgan Fleming to seal the victory for the Red Dragons.

Montgomery provided the assist on Oneonta's first goal scored by Carly O'Connor in just the second minute.

Maura Leib finished with five saves in goal.

Oneonta (5-5) will travel to play Keuka Wednesday.

Hartwick 3, Utica 1 (Saturday)

Hartwick's women's volleyball team earned a four-set victory over Utica Saturday, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20.

Leading the way for the Hawks were Staecia Silofau with 16 kills and 15 digs, Niah Reeves with 14 kills and three blocks, Shaelyn Thornton with 17 digs, 13 kills, three aces and two assists, Sarah Petz with 17 digs, two aces and one assist and Vanessa Seymour with 51 assists and two aces.

Hartwick (6-6) will visit Alfred Friday.

Fredonia 3, SUNY Oneonta 1 (Saturday)

SUNY Oneonta fell to Fredonia in four sets Saturday by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 17-25, 26-24.

The Red Dragons' top performers in the loss were Colleen McCabe (10 kills, nine digs, three blocks, two aces), Katie Spano (four kills, four blocks), Annalisa Alicea (19 digs, three assists, two aces) and Sophia Gerace (19 assists, six digs).

Oneonta (2-11) will host SUNY Geneseo Friday.

Hartwick 8, Nazareth 1 (Sunday) Hartwick 7, St. John Fisher 2 (Saturday)

The Hartwick women's tennis team won a pair of matches over the weekend, defeating Nazareth 8-1 Sunday and St. John Fisher 7-2 Saturday.

Against St. John Fisher, the doubles teams of Phoebe Olson and Jade Killikelly (8-6), Ryann Ashby and Lily Vanuga (8-1) and Colleen Marsh and Gianna Leggieri (8-4) were each victorious.

Winning in singles play were Olson (6-3, 7-6), Killikelly (6-4, 6-0), Marsh (6-1, 2-0) and Maggie Van Valkenburgh (6-0, 6-0).

Against Nazareth, Olson and Killikelly (8-6), Ashby and Vanuga (8-2) and Marsh and Leggieri (8-7) completed another sweep of doubles action.

Singles victories came from Killikelly (6-0, 6-0), Ashby (6-1, 6-3), Vanuga (6-3, 7-5), Marsh (6-1, 6-3) and Van Valkenburgh (6-0, 6-0).

Hartwick (7-3) will host Alfred Saturday to conclude the regular season.

Hartwick's football team fell to Utica 48-7 on the road Saturday.

The Hawks fell behind 24-0 in the first half and were never able to recover. Utica's defense kept Hartwick in check all game, holding the Hawks to just 250 yards of offense and coming up with three interceptions.

Hartwick's only points came on a 3-yard touchdown pass from James Sobol to Nate Rath in the second quarter.

Sobol threw for 126 yards with the touchdown and two interceptions. Rath had three catches for 55 yards while Haven Marascio caught three passes for 64 yards.

Hartwick (1-4) will visit SUNY Brockport next Saturday.
