SUNY Oneonta, Hartwick earn draws in men's soccer

Oct. 23—The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with Buffalo State in its Senior Day game Saturday.

Milton Mancias Magana got the Red Dragons on the board with a goal in the 53rd minute that came from an assist by Ian Zingaro.

Buffalo State was able to tie things up in the 68th minute on a goal by Stephen Haven.

Red Dragons keeper Nate Hanna made one save.

Oneonta (12-2-2), ranked number 15 in the country, will finish its regular season Tuesday at Hamilton.

Hartwick 2, Houghton 2 (Saturday)

The Hartwick men also earned a draw Saturday as the Hawks battled Houghton to a 2-2 final score.

Sean Burke opened the scoring for the Hawks in the 24th minute thanks to a Nick Nowak assist.

After Houghton tied things up before halftime, Burke scored again in the 56th minute, this time on an assist from Andres Ordonez Acosta.

Houghton tied things up for good in the 73rd minute.

Dante Gesamondo finished with two saves for Hartwick.

The Hawks (6-4-4) will visit Russell Sage Wednesday.

Buffalo State 5, SUNY Oneonta 3 (Saturday)

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team finished its season Saturday with a 5-3 loss to Buffalo State.

Joie Tortorice scored in the 19th minute for the Red Dragons to tie the score at 1-1. But Buffalo State responded with four unanswered goals to pull away.

Brooke Matura and Keira Dashnow each scored in the final two minutes to close the gap on the scoreboard.

Olivia Forbes made six saves in the loss while Bryanna Meehan also saw time in net.

Oneonta finishes with an overall record of 5-6-3 and a conference mark of 2-6-1.

Hartwick 0, Alfred 0 (Saturday)

The Hartwick women played Alfred to a scoreless tie on the road Saturday.

Meghan Perry made five saves in goal to earn the clean sheet.

Hartwick (2-6-6) will wrap up its regular season Wednesday at home against Russell Sage.

Hartwick 3, DeSales 1 (Saturday) Hamilton 3, Hartwick 0 (Saturday)

The Hartwick volleyball team split a pair of matches last Saturday, defeating DeSales in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17) and falling to Hamilton in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-16).

Leading Hartwick in the win were Staecia Silofau (14 kills, 13 digs), Shaeyln Thornton (13 kills, eight digs, four aces), Vanessa Seymour (38 assists, nine digs, three aces), Kaileigh Brandow (17 digs, four aces) and Sarah Petz (15 digs).

The top performers in the loss were Shelby Swartz (eight kills), Thornton (10 kills, 14 digs), Seymour (27 assists) and Petz (11 digs).

Hartwick (12-9) will visit Houghton next Saturday.

SUNY Oneonta 3, SUNY Potsdam 1 (Saturday)

SUNY Oneonta defeated SUNY Potsdam in four sets Saturday by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-10.

Leading the Red Dragons in the win were Ashanti Davis with 19 kills, Julia Reedy with 14 kills and nine digs, Layla Driscoll-Webster with 38 assists and five aces, Karli Chamberlin with 14 digs and four aces and Annalisa Alicea with 28 digs.

Oneonta (5-15) will host SUNY New Paltz Wednesday.

Stockton 9, SUNY Oneonta 2 (Sunday) SUNY Oneonta 3, Oswego 2 (Saturday)

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team split a pair of games over the weekend, defeating Oswego 3-2 Saturday and falling to Stockton 9-2 Sunday.

The Red Dragons recovered from an early 2-0 deficit against Oswego to score three unanswered goals in a span of seven minutes.

Morgan Fleming scored twice in less than a minute and Alexandra Howell scored the game-winner in the 52nd minute.

Maura Leib finished with seven saves in the win.

Against Stockton, Abigail Ricottilli and Michaela Maniscalco were the goalscorers while Leib had three saves and Chelsea Dodenhoff had one.

Oneonta (7-9) will host SUNY New Paltz Wednesday.

Hartwick fell to St. John Fisher 2-1 on the road Saturday.

The Hawks fell behind 2-0 before Ashley Tricario found the back of the net in the 49th minute.

Ashley Luppens made eight saves in the loss.

Hartwick (8-5) will be at Utica Wednesday.
