SUNY Oneonta baseball drops doubleheader to Cortland

Mar. 25—The SUNY Oneonta baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Cortland at home Monday to open SUNYAC play.

Oneonta fell 4-1 in the first game and 18-6 in a back-and-forth second game.

Cortland scored a pair of runs in the first inning of the first game and pulled away with two more in the ninth.

Joey Dwyer went 2-for-4 with a home run while Alex Wurster singled in the loss.

Sean Liquori struck out seven while allowing one earned run over five innings while Derek Shea, Tom Roefaro and Logan Carriero combined to strike out three over four innings.

Cortland took a 4-0 lead with a three-run second inning in the second game before Oneonta scored six unanswered to take a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning.

Cortland would go on to score eight runs in the sixth inning and never looked back.

Anthony Foglia went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Liquori added a pair of hits and Liam Kaseta, Dwyer and Logan Hutter each drove in a run in the loss.

Martin Thorsland, Kyle Roper, James Torres and Andrew Bonilla combined to strike out 11 over eight innings for Oneonta.

Oneonta falls to 7-9, 0-2 in SUNYAC play and will host Cortland Tuesday.

MEN'S LACROSSE

The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team took down SUNY Cobleskill 18-3 Monday at home.

Jagger Beachak led the way with seven goals while Chris Lazazzaro tallied three goals and three assists, Benjamin Moscatiello added two goals and Kyle Brogan, Greg Junge, Andrew Sullivan, Kyle Moore, Anthony Ferrato and Thomas Poniros each scored once for the Broncos.

Mike Triolo had five saves in the win.

Delhi improves to 8-1 and will visit SUNY Poly Saturday.

SUNY Oneonta fell to Potsdam 21-9 in its SUNYAC opener on the road Sunday.

Jamie O'Neil reached 100 career points with three goals and an assist while Ryan Lussier, Thomas Hnis, Eric Nicholson, Matthew Krieg, Evan Kelly and Daniel Macchiarella each scored once in the loss.

Harrison Boukas tallied eight saves while Ben Thayer added one for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta falls to 4-4, 0-1 in SUNYAC play, and will host Geneseo Saturday.
