Sturgis tennis beats Three Rivers

The Sturgis tennis team beat Three Rivers, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

The match started at 2 p.m. at Three Rivers High School. The Wildcats later played another conference matchup, falling to Edwardsburg 7-1 as well.

In the match with the Trojans, Three Rivers got a victory at third singles. There, Arabella Mangold beat Tess Scheske of Sturgis 7-5 and 6-1.

Sturgis captured wins in the other three singles matches. Rylee Carver won over Abigail Lemacks at first singles with scores of 6-0 and 6-3. Emily Schuller went to three sets with Emily Workman at second singles. Schuller won 6-3 in the first set, but Workman won 6-2 in the second. Schuller claimed an 11-9 win in the third and final set.

Gracie Perry also won for Sturgis, it came at fourth singles. She beat Laynie Zabonick with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.

Sturgis swept the doubles matches, each of them went two sets.

In first doubles action, the Sturgis team of Madison Golden and Johanna Rooyakkers won over Lily Zabonick and Kenzie Rennis with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. The second doubles team of Ava Stewart and Katherine Steel won over Logann Chrisman and Lexie Page with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

Rosa Soto and Bella Currier teamed up to win at third doubles. They beat Allie Lundquist and Daniela Artank with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. At fourth doubles, Sturgis’ team of Lauren Whitehead and Chloe Clark won over Caydence Kinney and Lucy Olson 6-2 and 6-2.

Three Rivers got a win at third singles from Mangold against Edwardsburg as well. She beat Julia Jones 6-1 and 6-0.

At first singles, Lemacks fell to Mackenzie Schaible 6-2, 6-2; Workman fell in second singles action to Eucris Ugay 6-4, 6-0 and Zabonick dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-3 decision to Abby Pryor at fourth singles.

Delaney Haradine and Leah Stern won for Edwardsburg at first doubles over Zabonick and Rennie by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Chrisman and Page fell at second doubles to Libby Freudenburg and Julia Lewis at 7-6 (3), 6-3. Lungquist and Artank were upended by Ryleigh Reynolds and Erin Letter at third doubles 6-2, 7-5 and the fourth doubles team of Kinney and Olson fell to Mya Eberlein and Grace Maynard 6-0, 6-1.
