Sturgis hosts 59th annual Kiwanis Invitational

STURGIS — The 59th annual Kiwanis cross country invitational was held Saturday in Sturgis.

The Sturgis girls finished second in the Division 1/2 team competition with 49 points. Byron Center claimed first place with 29, while Harper Creek (63) and Byron Center's second team (92) finished fourth.

Berkley Holtz ran to first place at 19 minutes, 43 seconds, and Tessa Hatt finished second in a personal-best 20:13 to lead Sturgis.

Also running for Sturgis were: Sydney Bir (11th, 21:25), Eleanor Park (20th, 22:18, PR), Kenzie Eicher (23rd, 22:53), Paityn Modert (29th, 23:18), and Kylie Brooks (30th, 23:24).

The Trojan boys claimed fourth out of eight teams at 129 points. Detroit Catholic Central was first at 35 followed by Byron Center (52) and Harper Creek (57).

Nolan Park led the Trojans with a 13th-place finish at 17:54. Benjamin Morales (18:06, 17th), Caleb Hohn (33rd, 19:02), Zachary Green (37th, 19:25) and Niko Morales (43rd, 19:47, PR) also scored for Sturgis. Ben Moses (46th, 19:59) and Henry Ebert (48th, 20:09) were the non-counting runners.

Bronson, Constantine and White Pigeon all ran in the Division 3-4 races.

The Bronson boys were second with 69 points, while Constantine came in third with 84. Kalamazoo Homeschool was first with 23 and White Pigeon finished fifth at 119.

Jesse Fielis of White Pigeon ran to fifth place at 17:59 and David Lane came in 19th at 19:20.

Bronson was led by Tyler Wilber in ninth at 18:22, Drew Norton ran a time of 18:26 for 11th and Domenic Kiomento finished 15th at 18:54. Kamron Brackett came in 16th at 19:05.

Leading Constantine was Robbie King in seventh at 18:11, Alessandro Avila came in 10th at 18:24.

Kalamazoo Homeschool won the girls race with 42 points to edge out Quincy (51). White Pigeon was fifth at 108, Bronson took sixth at 132.

Bronson's Lydia Wells was 17th at 23:14, Jaiden Hayes ran to 18th at 23:23.

Jamielynn Delarye was 19th at 23:36 for White Pigeon, and Analiese Miller came in 23rd at 24:05.

Aimee Hochstetler ran to 43rd for Constantine at 30:22, Corinne Shoup was 46th at 32:00.
