Feb. 16—STROM THURMOND 51, No. 7 GREER MIDDLE COLLEGE 37

Strom Thurmond's boys' basketball team advanced to the third round of the Class AA playoffs Friday night, eliminating Region 1-AA champion Greer Middle College with a 51-37 win on the road.

The Rebels (22-7) will visit Keenan on Monday, with the winner earning a trip to Florence for the Upper State championship game.

Roosevelt Walker scored 21 points, Class AA All-State selection Quan Edmond had 15, A.J. Walker scored 10, Landen Jones scored five, and Daley Hitt had seven rebounds and four steals while teaming with Jones to defend one of the state's best post players.

The Rebels won it with a stout defensive effort, holding seventh-ranked Greer Middle College (22-6) well below its season scoring average of 67 points per game.

A potential rematch with No. 6 Fox Creek is looming. The teams split their regular-season series, with Fox Creek winning a tiebreaker game for the Region 3-AA title. The Predators face top-ranked Gray Collegiate Academy in the other Upper State semifinal.
