Who will be the Storm Works Roofing High School Football Player of the Week? Cast your vote now

The games are starting to get bigger and so are the performances.

Another great week of high school football meant some tough choices in nailing down the five nominees for this week’s Storm Works Roofing & Restoration High School Football Player of the Week.

Who players put up numbers against are starting to mean as much as the numbers themselves. There were some huge performances we strongly considered this week – like Classical’s Jordan Duke, who ran for over 200 yards, and Pilgrim’s Chase Roberts, who threw four touchdowns – in wins that came against teams not quite in the playoff picture.

This week’s list is pretty impressive, with three running backs who reached the 200-yard mark, another who ripped off a game-winning touchdown and nearly got there himself, and another player who came up huge in an upset victory.

If you don’t see a player from your school you thought should be nominated, there is a chance we didn’t get the necessary information to ensure a nomination. To be nominated we need coaches to email the final score from their and who was involved in their team’s scoring to PJSports@ProvidenceJournal.com that night. If we see a player who we think deserves nomination, we’ll reach out to the coach for specific stats like rushing yards, passing yards or tackles.

What will this week’s winner get? Same as last week’s.

Clout. The award is meant to be an interactive way for the state’s passionate football communities to show just how much they support their players. We want schools, teams and players to create four-day campaigns to try and garner support and as many votes as possible for one of their own. If you win, you earn those bragging rights. If you don’t, there’s always next week.

You can vote as many times as you want for your candidate and now, thanks to the fine folks at Storm Works, voting is open to anyone.

Now that we’ve got all that out of the way, let’s get on to the nominees.

The Rams’ junior running back was mmm, mmm, good on Friday night. He ran for 100 yards and a score in the first half, then ripped off 114 and three touchdowns – including a 74-yarder in the third quarter alone. Campbell finished his night with 19 carries for 217 yards and four touchdowns, catching three passes for 19 yards and added 10 tackles on the other side of the ball as well.

Everyone knew who was getting the carries and it didn’t matter. Durang was in full-fledged beast mode on Thursday night, carrying the ball 24 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He got the Lions on the board first against Coventry with a 49-yard touchdown run and added scores from 4 and 8 yards to help keep Lincoln undefeated with a 27-6 win.

Pedus came up with his biggest play of the season on his best game of the year in a game the Wizards had to have. Trailing by four late in the third quarter, Pedus popped a 43-yard touchdown run that ended up being the game-winning score. He finished his night with 18 carries for 176 yards and the TD to keep West Warwick in the running for the No. 1 seed in D-III.

After a big game two weeks ago that gave the Chieftains their first D-III win of the season, Pincince came up bigger last week. The senior opened Friday’s game against Moses Brown with an 80-yard kickoff return for a score that gave Ponaganset all the momentum it needed its eventual 33-6 win. Pincince didn’t stop after the return TD, scoring on an 8-yard touchdown later in the game.

After winning Player of the Week last week, we were trying not to make Ray a nominee this week but he just didn’t make that possible. Returning to his natural position of running back, Ray dominated against St. Raphael. He carried the ball 33 times for 217 yards and ran for three touchdowns, including a 36-yarder that got the Clippers off to the start they were looking for in the eventual 21-8 win.
