Stock Up, Stock Down: Tigers are drowned out by the Tide

If LSU was going to win the SEC West and try to make a run for the College Football Playoff, they would have to win out. That starts with beating the Alabama Crimson Tide. LSU was unable to do that tonight as the Tide won 42-28 in Tuscaloosa.

If you are a fan of offense and watching teams score a lot of points, this first half was right up your alley. LSU and Alabama traded blows and entered halftime tied at 21. LSU took the lead when they scored on the first drive of the second half but after that, it was all Alabama.

Here’s how things are trending after the loss.

Stock Up: Jayden Daniels

Until Daniels got knocked out of the game in the fourth quarter, he was playing like a Heisman trophy winner. He finished the game 15-for-24 for 219 yards, two touchdowns and one interception as well as rushing for 163 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts.

Stock Up: Malik Nabers

Malik Nabers was a bright spot as usual as he finished the game with 10 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. He tacked on to his receiving yards total and he was already No. 1 in the NCAA in that area.

Stock Down: Defense

The Alabama offense had the ball for 11 drives and the Tide had a chance to finish with points on every drive except for their first drive. The others either ended in a field goal attempt or the end of a half. It does not matter how good your offense is if your defense can’t get stops.

Stock Down: Injuries

Coming into the game, the story of this game was the injuries to the LSU secondary. The defense was already thin without Wingo and that did not help. Early in the fourth quarter, Daniels was hit by Dallas Turner and knocked out of the game. Then Major Burns went out on the next defensive possession.

Stock Down: Out of the SEC West race

If LSU wanted to win the SEC West and have a shot at the College Football Playoffs, they would have had to win out. That didn’t happen as the Tigers fell to the Tide and now the SEC West race is finished for LSU. Alabama and Ole Miss are both ahead of the Tigers now.
