The American Family Insurance Championship is, for many, Steve Stricker’s tournament. The Edgerton native and Madison resident has been a driving force behind the success of the PGA Tour Champions event since its debut in 2016 – and now the tournament course will have his fingerprints on it.

Stricker assisted in the redesign of TPC Wisconsin, which will host the AmFam Championship beginning in 2025. The club, formerly called Cherokee Country Club, is owned by Dennis Tiziani and he led the redesign of the property.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be involved in designing a world-class golf course, and to have this opportunity to redesign my home golf course and upgrade it to TPC standards is especially rewarding,” Stricker said in a statement. “I’m confident the AmFam Champ at TPC Wisconsin will continue to be a fantastic community event that will raise money to support charitable organizations in our community.”

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources approved the $15 million redesign, as several acres of wetlands are on the property, which is next to the Cherokee Marsh.

Tiziani, Stricker's father-in-law, is a Wisconsin Golf Hall of Famer and coached the University of Wisconsin men’s golf team for nearly three decades and the women’s team for 14 years.

The AmFam Championship has been held at University Ridge Golf Club, which is owned by the University of Wisconsin.

The TPC Network added Tiziani’s property to its portfolio in 2022 and rebranded it. The TPC Network is owned and operated by the PGA Tour. It has 14 resort/daily fee courses and 16 private clubs, including TPC Wisconsin. The course is scheduled to reopen to its members later this summer.

The 2023 tournament will be held the week of June 3-11 with competition being played June 9-11 University Ridge.

Madison native Jerry Kelly won the event in 2019 and 2021.
